CHURCH ACTIVITIES Many Area Chuches Plan Special Easier Services Calvary Baptist The adult choir of Calvary Baptist Church will present "The Wonder of it All," an Easter musical by Joe E. Parks, during the 11 a.m. worship hour. The church is located on Village Point Road in Shallottc. St. Brendan's Catholic St. Brendan's Catholic Church will hold its Easter Vigil Mass Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Sunday Masses will be celebrated at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 12 noon. The church is located on U.S. 17, approximately two miles south of Shallottc. Camp Methodist Several special Holy Week ser vices arc planned at Camp United Methodist Church. The Maundy Thursday service, which commemo rates the Last Supper, will be held today (Thursday) at 7 p.m. The Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. The celebration of Easter contin ues during the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sunday, and with the con gregation decorating ihc cross out side the church with flowers as a symbol of the resurrection. A nursery will be provided during the wecknight services. Ocean View PFB Ocean View Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church will hold spccial Easter services Sunday at 11 a.m., commemorating the basis of the Christian faith, the resumption of Jesus from the dead. A series of Holy Week services at the church have traced the final week of the ministry of Jesus on earth, with participauon Irom other churches in the community. Seaside Methodist Maundy Thursday will be ob served today (Thursday) with a 7 p.m. service of music and Holy Communion. The adult choir with Janet Saunders as narrator will pre sent sections of the cantata, "Lamb of Promise." The Good Friday Tcncbrae ser vice of darkness will begin at 7 p.m. Members of the congregation will read appropriate selections as the sanctuary is darkened and the choir will sing, "No Sacrifice Too Great." An Easter sunrise service will be gin at 6:45 a.m. after doughnuts and coffee are served at 6:30 a.m. Identical 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. ser vices are planned, with the adult choir singing "Jesus is Risen," the Tone Chimes accompanying the call to worship and Camille Yorkey Edwards, pastor, preaching. Jackie Bridges and Marjoric Crissman will play an organ-piano duct for the of fertory, an arrangement of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus." Holden Beach Chapel The Holden Beach Chapel will hold its first Maundy Thursday ser vice today at 8 p.m., led by the pas tor of the week. The Rev. Dr. William Smith Jr. of Greensboro. Smith will also lead services at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday at the chapel, which is located on Rothschild Street across from the town hall. Brunswick Islands Bapt. The Brunswick Islands Baptist Church will hold an ecumenical sun rise service at 6 a.m. Easter at the Holden Beach Pier. Participants arc asked to bring their own lawn chair. The message will be brought by the Rev. Jack Hancox. pastor, with spccial music by the Brunswick Islands Baptist Church Choir and by the Missionaircs gospel group. ColTcc and doughnuts will be served after the service. The South Brunswick Interchurch Council is encouraging member churches to support this ecumenical service unless they have an early service of their own. Ocean Isle Chapel At Ocean Isle Beach, the Rev. Mike Shrcve, an evangelist from Cleveland, Tcnn., will lead an 8:30 a.m. service on the strand and the 11 a.m. worship scrvice in the Ocean Isle Beach Chapel near the town hall. Shallotte Presbyterian One mile west of the pier between the Duneside and Driftwood beach accesses, Shallotte Presbyterian Church will sponsor the 8:30 a.m. service it has held on the Ocean Isle Beach strand for more than 20 years. The Rev. Dr. Lester Dattler will lead the service. St. James Episcopal St. James The Fishermen Epis copal Church holds its Easter Vigil scrvice at 5:30 a.m. Sunday at Gause Landing, where the church has its origins. Vans will provide trans portation from the old 1GA store parking lot at Ocean Isle, with a pro cessional planned from the landing up to the Piggott properly where the first church was located, returning to the church in Shallotte after the ser vice. At 2:30 p.m. the church will cele brate completion of its new worship facility with a service of consecra tion led by the diocescean bishop. Drama '\ Am' Set The music and drama ministries of Southport Baptist Church will share the Easter musical drama "1 Am" April 8 and 9 and at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Through drama and music the tri umphal entry. Last Supper, prayer in the garden, arrest and betrayal, cru cifixion, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ will be relieved. The church's 50-mcmbcr adult choir, accompanied by organist Amarctla Prcvattc and pianist Pam Hicks, will provide the music, under the direction of Eddie Hicks, minister of music and youth. Soloists include Debbie Evans, Marsha Huskcy, Tom Huskey and Pam Wells. The drama is directed by Kathy Hoi brook, who also portrays Mary. Jesus is portrayed by Jerry Up church. The public is invited to attend. Sunrise Service Shallotte First Baptist Church will hold a sunrise worship service at 6:30 Easter morning on the front lawn of the church. Breakfast will follow the service. Lunar New Year Marked The Buddhist Assocition of North Carolina will observe Songkran Sunday, April 11, an opportunity to "make religious merit" in celebra tion of the beginning of the lunar New Year. This is a time when chil dren perform religious ceremonies in remembrance of deceased ances tors as well as elders still living. Construction has begun of the temple's multipurpose building, and this year's celebration of the Songkran festival will support that construction effort, said a news re lease from the monastery. The celebration begins at 9:45 a.m. and continues into the after noon, with a ceremonial parade and presentation of gifts, sharing of a meal and the monks' sermon to the faithful, "Veneration of our elders." Watson Is Speaker Gloria Watson of Longwood will be the guest speaker for the April meeting of the Shallotte Women's Aglow Fellowship. The meeting will be held Sat urday, April 10, at Lockwood Folly Community Building, Sianbury Road, Supply.
