Foursome Shoots 33 In Brierwood Mixed Scramble Roy Havcnga, Bob Warchcim, Rita Dugan and Janet Twomcy com bined for a thrcc-undcr-par 33 and won the Bricrwood Men's Golf Association nine-hole mixed scram ble last Thursday. Finishing second with a 34 was the foursome of John Twomcy, Bur ley Athan, Ethel Brown and Dcdc Havcnga. In other action last Thursday, the team of Bill Allen, Hal Schulcr, Jim Crosby and Morris Hall shot 24-un dcr-par 120 to win the Bricrwood men's two best ball event. Placing second with a 128 was the group of Jim Bryant, Jerry Smith, John Cowie and Howard Baync. On March 29, the foursome of Ncal McCall, John Martocci, Charlie S Iran sky and Howard Baync shot 155 to win a best ball tournament. Teams counted one best ball on the first five holes, two balls on the next five, three balls on the next five and all four balls on the final three holes. Finishing second with 161 was the team of Jack Causer, George Glcasby, Norm Soucic and Jim Kcllehcr. Jim Crosby, Barney Mar un, Rick Rickbicl and Paul Kcelcy took third with 163. Two teams tied for first place in the 18-holc mixed scramble March 28 at Bricrwood. Joe Reiter, Jerry Smith, Ann Causer and Edith Wilckens shot 67 to tic Hollcn Groff, Graham Justice, Rita Dugan and Lois Martocci. Tied for second with 69 were the teams of Chuck Dugan, Jan Lofiin, Sarah McCul lough and Barbara Wcingarten and Bill Pingo, Jim Bryant, Marion Johnson and Marion Rockstroh. Two teams tied for third in the captain's choice event. Barney Martin, Hugh McCullough, Marge Roach and Esther Smith shot 70 to tic Gene Lofiin, Dillon Taylor, Irene Bryant and Joyce Rose. Brierwood Ladies Ann Hicrman shot gross 88 and Hilda Hall fired net 66 to lead the first flight in the Bricrwood Ladies Golf Association tournament last week. Runncrs-up in the top flight in cluded Ann Causer with net 67 and Ginger Sugrue with 72. Causer also had low putts in the flight with 27. Top finishers in the second flight included Pat O'Connell with gross 98. Irene Bryant and Hclene Baker tied for low net with 69. Maureen Farley shot net 70 and Margaret Wood had 72. Marion Johnson had low putts with 27. Chip-ins were made by Mary Ahcarn and Akers at the sixth hole. Hall at the 10th, Shirley Groff at the 14th, Jen Ward at the 17th and Bobbie Maples at the 18th. Brick Landing Rose Gorncy led the tcp flight and Peg Campana finished second in the Brick Landing Women's Golf Association "Flag Tournament" last Thursday. Second flight winners were Mar tha Cullcn and runner-up Ginny Hohing. Edna Hollowcll led the third flight, followed by Sue Hoas ton. Birdies were carded by Sue Nel son and Ruth Gardner at the fourth hole. Houston chippcd in at the eighth and birdied the 17th. Carolina Shores Men Bill Haupt had 31 points to lead the first flight in the Carolina Shores Men's Golf Association tournament March 29 at Oak Island Golf Club. Tied for second place in the modi fied Stableford event were Jim Sullivan and Jim Dcchan with 29 points each. Bill Marsh finished with 28 points to round out the first flight winners. In the second flight, Joe Baran and Bob Fyock led the way with 39 points apiece. Hank Hettinger placed third with 36 and Art Scarby had 35. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Bruce Kibblehousc at the third hole, John Crane at the seventh, Wayne Johnson at the 12th and Hettinger at the 17th. CS Travel League John Ward, Leo Jarmusz, Tony Basile and Tom Nappi shot 124 to win the Carolina Shores Men's Travel League tournament last Friday at Colonial Charters. Proceeds from the inaugural tour nament held at Brierwood Golf Club in Shallotte will be awarded to West Brunswick seniors who will attend an accredited four-year college or university. The Civitan club started awarding scholarships to West Brunswick two years ago when charter member Kendall Suh challenged the club to match his SI,000 contribution. The club awarded S2.000 in scholarships in 1991 and 1992. In the golf tournament's gross flight division, the team of Chris Lane, David Ward, Jerry Pratt and Randy Milazzo captured first-place honors with a round of 58. Finishing second with gross 61 was the foursome of Rick Robinson, Greg Turner, Tom Butler and Tom Robinson. Charles Walters, Ken Green, Bob Dicks and Val Tra.sk placed third with 62.
