Thomas Wins Brick landina Women's Club Championship Millie Thomas was crowned the winner after shooting the low gross in the recently-compleled Brick Landing Women's Golf Association club championship tournament. Low net winners in the 36-hole event were Alice Grossman in the first flight and Martha Cullcn in the second flight. In more recent tournament action at Brick Landing, Cullen led the first flight last Thursday with gross 91. Peg Campana fired the low net of 68, and Thomas had low putts. Pat Taylor shot 98 for low gross in the second flight. Sue Houston had the low net with 69, and Marie Barry had low putts. In the third flight, winners were Edna Hollowell with gross 108 and Betty Bonniol with net 69. Terry Ehlers had low putts. Barry birdicd the 12th hole and Grossman birdicd the 15th. Sea Trail Ladies The Sea Trail Ladies Golf Associ ation held a nine-hole, two best ball of foursome event last Tuesday on the Byrd course. Winning the front nine with a 61 was the team of Eva Baham, Jane Bye, Lois Pike and Marge Gallop. Finishing second on the front nine was the foursome of Joan Llew ellyn, Barbara Pointer, Marge Stokes and Carol Peters with 63. On the back nine, Pat Gardner, Martha Murphy, Betty Geesey and Jerri Moore led the way with a 54. Finishing two shots back in sec ond place was the team of Joan Worlcy, Carol Young, Betty Street and Pat Burkart Placing third with a round of 61 was the foursome of Hcni Moulton, Rosemary Walker, Elaine Lawrcn son and Jennie Gregory. Gardner had a birdie at the 12th hole, and Worley birdicd the 16th. Brierv/ood Ninettes Ann Poison fired a net 24 to win the Brierwood Ninettes "Hates Holes" tournament last Friday. Before the round, golfers chose two holes to subtract from their scores. Finishing second with net 26 was Pal Narazinski. Liz Bruce was third with 29. June Cleasby had low putts with 15. Hazel Casey was second with 16 putts, followed by Kathy Stoll and Wyarian Taylor with 17 apiece. Alice Micali and Margaret Pingo had pars at the third hole. Judy Dur ham paired the seventh and Poison parred the ninth. Calabash Veterans Larry Bollinger shot gross 79 and Ernie Williams fired net 65 to lead the first flight in the Calabash Vete rans Golf Association tournament last Friday at Brierwood. Runners-up in the top flight were Tom Rugala with gross 80 and Leroy Rotherforth with net 68. In the second flight, low gross winners were Pat Varney with 85 and Bob Slilwell with 90. Fred Hohorst had the low net of 67, fol lowed by Ed Jackson with 72. Third flight winners were Herb Holcomb with gross 84 and Jose Lucero with net 62. Sea Trail Men The team of John Pointer, John Walker, Bill Pike (blind draw) and Dale Stanton had 114 points to win the Sea Trail Men's Golf Associ ation tournament last Tuesday on the Byrd course. Finishing second on a match of cards was the foursome of Ray Washam, John Murphy, Keith Curry and Dutch Geesey, also with 114 points. Third place went to the team of Wayne Ruff, Bill Morris, John Law renson and Bob Erbach with 119 points. Placing fourth with 120 were Gene Williams, Joe Polanski, Dick Worley and Charlie Rose. GRAINGER QUALIFIES South Advances To States South Brunswick qualified for the North Carolina 1-A/2-A high school golf championships for the second straight year Monday with a sccond placc finish at the eastern regionals in Richlands. Also qualifying for the individual state title for the second straight year was West Brunswick's Jeremy Grainger. The state championships will be May 14 and 15 at Finlcy Golf Course in Chapel Hill. South Brunswick shot a team total of 322 Monday at the Rock Creek Country Club to finish second to Farmville Central's 309. East Duplin shot 323 to place third and also ad vance to the state event. West Brunswick placed fifth in the 15-tcam regional, and North Brunswick finished 14th. Wacca maw Conference member White ville finished eighth, and East Bla den was 15th. South Brunswick won the eastern regional last year and finished fifth in the state championships. The Cougars tuned up for the re gional with a dual match victory over 4-A New Hanover last Wed nesday at Landfall's Nicklaus coursc. South shot 320 to win by 12 strokes. South's Brandon Vannoy was medalist with a two-over-par 74. Jeff Howard and Pat Jones both shot 78 for the Cougars, and Daniel Kopp and Andy Broadwell each fired 80. Emanual Outreach Unbeaten In Church Softball Leaaue Emanual Outreach remained the only undefeated team in the Bruns wick County Men's Church Softball League Monday with a 19-6 win over Old Shallotte Baptist. Chasing Emanual Outreach (7-0) for the South Division lead is Ocean View, which improved its record to 5-1 last Friday with a 15-11 victory over Old Shallotte. Friendship Baptist remained in third place in the South Division with a pair of wins in the past week. Friendship defeated Zion Baptist 19 4 Monday and pounded Soldier Bay 19-2 last Friday. In the North Division, Mount Olive and Jennies Branch are lied for first place at 5-1 and Supply Baptist is close behind at 4-2. Mount Olive suffered its first loss of the season last Tuesday, falling 14-13 to Supply. Jennies Branch won both of its games last week, beating Camp Methodist 17-2 and turning back Letties Grove 11-5. Soldier Bay beat New Britton 12 9 Monday night. Bladen West Brunswick's tennis team continued its march toward a possi ble second straight Waccamaw 2-A Conference championship Monday, winning a doublehcader over East Bladen. To make up an earlier rain out, West Brunswick and East Bladen played two matches and the Trojans were 5-0 winners in both. West has a 9-1 record in the conference with two matches remaining this week. In the first match Monday, La marr Hardy, Caleb Stcedlcy, Kelly Woolen, Michael Simmons, and Chris Carter won in singles play. Carter beat his opponent 6-0, 6-0, and lost just one point in the match on a double fault. West Brunswick got singles wins from Scott Lewis and Hardy in the second match. Winning their dou bles matches were Scllars and Simmons, Wootcn and Carter, and John Trul and A1 Villa. West Brunswick beat South Brun swick 9-0 last Tuesday to knock the Cougars out of a three-way tie for first place in the Waccamaw Confer ence. South, West and Whiteville were tied at 6-1 going into the match. West Brunswick was scheduled to wrap up conference play this week with a Tuesday match against visit ing Fairmont. The Trojans will re sume a match against South Robe son Wednesday at Southeastern Community College. If West wins its final two matches it will most likely end up tied with Whiteville for the conference lead at 11-1.
