Whiteville Man In
Prison For 181 Days
A Whitcvillc man, who had his
driver's liccnsc revoked permanent
ly for three drunk driving convic
tions, was sentenced to 181 days in
prison last week after pleading
guilty in Brunswick County District
Court last to another charge of dri
ving while impaired.
Jeffrey Ncal Inman, 34, was
stopped at 1:45 a.m. last Dec. 12 by
Highway Patrol Officer B.D.
Barnhardt, who observed him weav
ing in the road, crossing the center
line and travelling at only 35 miles
per hour on N.C. 130 near Ash, ac
cording to court records.
Inman refused to take a breath
test to determine his blood alcohol
content But Barnhardt noted that
Inman mumbled when he talked.
His speech was slurred. His eyes
were red and glassy. He was un
steady on his feet And he had a
moderate odor of alcohol on his
breath, the court papers show.
In sentencing Inman, the judge
recommended that he take pari in
the Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation
Training (DART) program while in
prison. A charge of driving while his
liccnsc was revoked permanently
and simple possession of Schedule
VI Controlled Substance were both
voluntarily dismissed.
District Court Judge Napoleon B.
Barefoot Jr. presided over court
Monday (April 26), while Judge
Jerry A. Jolly heard cases Tuesday.
