Crean-Linder Win Brierwood Ladies' Mem ber-Member Tourney Dot Crcan and Ruih Lindcr com bined for a net 49 and won the Bri crwood Ladies Golf Association Member-Member Tournament May There was a three-way tie for sec ond place in the best ball of two some event. Tied with rounds of 53 were Ann Causer and Audrey Salmon, Lois Bcato and Mary Schaack, and Marie Brown and Emily Laughlin. Three teams tied for third with 55. They were Jane Flicg and Pat O'Conncll, Jan Loflin and Ann Hicrman, and Ginny Campbell and Louise Blizzard. Carding birdies were Rosa Stadick at the second hole; Ncl Justice at the fifih; Ethel Brown, Causer and Schaack at the sixth Marie Brown at the seventh; Loflin at the 15th; Irene Bryant and Bobbie Maples at the 16th, and Nancy Bouldin at the 17th. Long drive winners were Maples, Marge Harper and Carolyn Mc Croskey. Closcst-to-thc-pin winners were Sara McCullough at the third hole, Stadick at the ninth, Margaret Wood at the 14 th and Maples at the 17th. In more recent action at Brier wood, Jan Loflin and Rosa Stadick both shot gross 80 to tie for first place in the top flight last Tuesday. Hilda Hall and Ann Hierman tied for low net with 63. Hicrman had low putts with 25. Top finishers in the second flight were Marie Brown with gross 87 and Pat Wolff with net 62. Runners up were Marie Dolan with net 64 and Ethel Brown with 65. Brown tied Ann Causer for low putts with 28. In the third flight, Bobbyc Cordisco led the way with gross 97. Joan Cowie had net 64, Rita Dugan shot 66 and Elsie Rickbcil, Cath erine Clcmmons and Ruth Linder tied with 67. Cowie had low putts with 26. Jane Flieg fired gross 95 and Janet Twomey shot ncl 60 to lead the fourth flight Alice Struck and Audrey Salmon tied for second low net with 64. Salmon and Carolyn McCroskcy tied for low pulls with 30 apiece. Emily Laughlin led the fifth flight I with gross 102. Dodie Niland and Louise Blizzard tied for low net with rounds of 64. Evelyn Wuthrich and Peg Stcincr were second with 67. Niland and Edith Wilckens each had 29 putts. Cordisco chipped in at the 12th hole and chipped in for birdie at the 14th. Other chip-ins were made by Hclenc Baker and Mary Nicol at the first and Flieg at the 11th. Carding birdies were Ethel Brown at the first; Nancy Bouldin and Stadick at the second; Bobbie Ma ples at the sixth; Joanna Lang, Lois Beato and Dolan at the seventh; Hall at the ninth; Loflin at the third and 14ih; Mary Schaack at the 13th and Marge Harper at the 15th. CS Travel League The Carolina Shores Men's Tra vel League held a two best balls of foursome event April 30 at Colonial Charters. First place was dccided on a match of cards. Bill McCroskey, Gene Miltner, Emie Kocppel and Chuck Jann shot 122 to place first Finishing second, also with 122, was the team of Tom Hoskinson, Jim Reagan, Jack O'Connell and Tom Nappi. Placing third with 124 was the foursome of Fritz McCabe, Bob Wilckens, John Serafin and Frank Eckert. Tom Brendgord, Chet Palcsko, Joe McDonough and Charlie O'Rourke finished fourth, also with 124. Earning fifth-place honors with a score of 125 was the team of Mike Hcaly, Mel Norris, John Kellcnbach and Tony San lino. Sea Trail Ladies Joan Llewellyn capturcd the first flight in the Sea Trail Ladies Golf Association tournament on the Jones course May 3. Golfers counted odd-numbered holes on the front nine and even numbered holes on the back. Hcni Moulton and Ann Holman tied for second in the top flight. Louisa Cilcnto was third and Pam Hayes was fourth. Marge Stokes won the second flight. Jill Wilson and Betty Street tied for second place, and Betty Geescy finished third. Top finishers in the third flight were Marge Gallop, Carol Peters, Mary Yost and Marie Munn. Brunswick Ladybirds Kay Brannon of Oak Island shot gross 86 to lead the championship flight in the Brunswick Ladybirds tournament April 28 at Fox Squirrel Country Club. Runners-up in the top flight in cluded Nancy Bouldin of Bricrwood and Lib Brooks of Oak Island with rounds of 95. V Golfing Action Frankic Dawson of Oak Island had the low net of 75. and Judy Collins of Fox Squirrel fired a 76. Nel Justice of Bricrwood had low putts with 32. In the first flight, top finishers were Joanna Lang of Bricrwood with gross 92 and Lois Bcato, also of Bricrwood, with net 70. Second-place finishers were Doris Dun fee of Bricrwood with gross 94 and Ellen Parker of Oak Island with net 73. Vivian Rowc of Brick Landing had low putts with 28. Bobbie Davis shot gross 102 and Marty Boulton of Sandpiper fired net 71 to lead the second flight. Brick Landing Millie Thomas fired a 45 to lead the first flight in the Brick Landing Women's Golf Association Crier's Tournament last Thursday. Golfers dropped scores on their two worst holes on the front nine and back nine. Leading the second flight was Sue Houston with a 42. Betty Bonniol led the third flight with a 46. Houston birdicd the 12th hole, and Hohing birdicd the 17th. Foxy Ladies Ann Causer, Doris Dunfce, Pierrette Tompkins and Lou Akcrs shot 113 to win the recent Bricrwood Foxy Ladies tournament at Bay Tree's silver course. Second place in the two best net event went to the foursome of Jan Loflin, Ruth Linder, Elsie Rickbeil and Martha Wareheim with 117. Finishing third with 118 was the team of Toni Iossi, Ethel Brown and Jean Lacerenza. They used a blind draw for their fourth score. Nifty Niners Members of the Carolina Shores Nifty Niners competed for low gross and low net honors last Thursday at Ocean Isle Beach and Brierwood golf courses. Top finishers at Ocean Isle were Martha Lovaty with gross 56 and Barbara Errickson with net 30. Lovaty edged Errickson on a match of cards for low gross honors. Placing third with 58 was Dot McAleer. McAleer had the second low net of 31, beating Nancy Rubin on a match of cards. At Brierwood, Kathleen Brennan fired the low gross of 57 and Jean Cardiff had the low net of 32. On a match of cards, Nancy Bradbury had the second low gross of 64 and Audrey Card was third. Brennan shot 34 for the second low net, and Bradbury took third place with 35 on a card match. Sea Trail Men Ed Bye, John Murphy, Dave Llewellyn and Jim Baham combined for a 67 to win the Sea Trail Men's Golf Association captain's choice May 3 on the Jones course. Three teams tied at 68 and the or der of finish was decided on a match of cards. Taking second was the foursome of John Pointer, Stan Risch, Charlie Ferguson and Lew Meyer. Placing third were Ron Hayes, Bill Miller and Bill Burkart. The team of Gene Williams, Ron Schadie and Dutch Geesey finished fourth. Brierwood Ninettes Liz Bruce, Kathy Stoll and Alenc Sterner were the top three finishers in the Brierwood Nineties tourna ment last Friday. Golfers countcd scores on par fours only. Shores Ladies Flo Warren, Lois Giamalva, Jenny Briggs and Doris Rice Tired a 120 to win the Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Association event last Thursday at Colonial Charters. Finishing second in the two best net balls of foursome tournament was the team of Gladys Bowcn, Ruby Vanderburg, Gerry Burdick and Cissy Fleming with a score of 121. Placing third with a 122 was the foursome of Pat Rear don, Joan O'Neill, Lil Haupt and Alice Abbcnc (blind draw). Ann Hicrman had a chip-in for birdie at the seventh hole. Also mak ing birdies were Ginny Dorshimer at the fourth and Warren at the 14th. Chip-ins were carded by Marylin Searby at the 11th hole, Maxinc Gray at the 12th, Marg Dale at the 15th and Sally Manifold at the 16th. Ruth's Renegades Two teams completed 18 holes without losing their ball in the Ruth's Renegades tournament last Thursday at Bay Tree. Winning teams were Evelyn Wuthrich and Madeline Mahony, and Arlene Singleton and Teddy Altreuter. Doris Brooks had the overall low gross of 109 and low net of 70. Altreuter birdicd the sixth hole, and Singleton chipped in at the 16th. Calabash Veterans The team of John Marcotte, Don Mahncke, Leroy Wynn and Jack Brooks shot 68 to win the Calabash Veterans Golf Association tourna ment last Friday at Ocean Isle Beach Golf Course. Finishing second in the captain's choice with a 69 was the team of Bill McDavit, Lew Meyer, Harry Knowlcs and Herb Oellerich. Third place went to the foursome of Ernie Williams, Bob Phillips, K.C. Anderson and Herman Thompson with a 70. Brierwood Men Charlie Stransky, Dave Harper, Gene Loflin and Ray Wood took first place in the Brierwood Men's Golf Association two best ball event Saturday with a sizzling 39-undcr par 105. Placing sccond with a 113 was the team of Morris Hall, Bill Grossman and Bob Sterner. A blind draw was used for their fourth player. Two teams tied for third. Joe Tymchak, Don Redding, Rick Rickbeil and Tony Maglione shot 114 to tie Jim Crosby, Roy Havcnga, Bill Pingoand Dick Anzelone. Individual winners in the first flight were Paul Dunfee with net 62, Gene Loflin with 63 and Roy Havcnga with 65. Leading the sccond flight were Don Redding with 62, Dave Harper with 67 and Will Mumford with 69. Ncal McCall led the third flight with a net 63. Tied for second with rounds of 66 were Ray Wood, Rick Rickbeil and John Cowie. Top finishers in the fourth flight included Charlie Stransky with net 57, Matt Monaghan with 62 and Bob Warchcim with 64. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Neal McCall at the third hole, Joe Tymchak at the ninth, Straud Macrkcr at the 14th and Jim Crosby at the 17th. Last Thursday, the foursome of Jim Crosby, Burley Athan, Janet Twomey and Ruth Hierman shot 34 to win the weekly nine-hole mixed scramble. Finishing one shot back in second place was the foursome of John Twomey, Norm Soucie, Rita Dugan and June Cleasby. Fred Williams, Bob Sterner, Alice Micali and Sally Dye shot 36 and placcd third. In other action last Thursday, Bill Allen, Jack Akcrs and Paul Kceley combined for a 21-undcr-par 123 to win a two best ball tournament. They used a blind draw for their fourth score. Jim Guffce, Fergie Nicol, Bill Pingo and George Cleasby shot 125 and placcd sccond. Third place went to the team of Jim Crosby, Fred Williams, Don Redding and Matt Monaghan with 126. On May 3, the team of Ncal McCall, Bill Allen, Bob Sterner and Bill Pingo fired a 30-undcr-par 114 to win a two best ball event at Brierwood. Finishing one stroke back in scc ond place was the team of Jim Bryant, Dick An/clone, Emilc Vry daghs and Matt Monaghan.
