Stanaland Honored
Sonny Stanaland (left) was recently honored for 18 years of service on the Shallotte Planning Board.
Stanaland was appointed to the town's first planning board in April 1974 and remained a member un
til last November. Mayor Sarah Tripp presented a plaque at the town board's May 4 meeting.

LOAD MANAGEMENT:
A way to level out peak electric use
When your household and family members consume electricity at any given time, it is known
as "load". And when we add up all the electric consumption from all our consumer-members
at any given time, it determines the load factor for the whole system.
There comcs a time every day when the system reaches its peak. That's when all of you. all
at once, are using the most electricity. This, of course, is when it costs the most to provide
that electricity. The way to help keep electric rates stable is to reduce this peak. It's what we
call "load management".
There are ways that you can help:
?
1. Signing up for our load management program which let us control your electric
water heater, central air conditioner, and electric heat strips during peak periods.
2. Shifting usage during our summer peak periods between 3 and 8 in the afternoon
and evenings. It is very important for you to use your major appliances in the early
morning or after 8 p.m.
