Man With
Lengthy Arrest Record
Gets Three Jail Sentences
A man who has been chargcd
with more than 50 past offenses was
sentenced to three years behind bars
last week after pleading guilty in
Brunswick County District Court to
charges of assaulting a police offi
cer, breaking a car windshield, fight
ing with a knife and threatening to
kill someone.
Daniel Wayne Briles, 26, of Dale
Drive, Ocean Isle Beach, also
known as "Pedro," pleaded guilty
May 4 to one charge each of assault
on a government official, communi
cating threats, aggravated affray and
injury to personal property, court
records show.
Briles was chargcd with striking
Sgt. Lisa Masscy of the Sunset
Beach Police Department while she
was investigating a disturbance call
March 27. Three days later he was
was accused of getting into a fight
to the terror and disturbance of oth
er citizens, during which he tried to
stab another man with a knife.
Court record indicate that Briles
las been chargcd in the past with six
rounts of resisting a public officer,
hrcc counts of assault on a female,
ive counts of breaking and entering,
our counts of being intoxicated and
lisruptive, three counts of larceny
md numerous other offenses includ
ng assault with a deadly weapon.
In a June district court session,

The district attorney last week
sked the judge to sentence Briles in

iat was alleged to have occurred

According to court documents,
?riles approached the sister while
Stic was sitting in her car at a
Seaside convenience store and broke
the- windshield. Three days later he
allegedly followed her as she was
leaving a Seaside grocery store "and
attempted to chase her as she got in
to her car to leave."
Ifjudgc Napoleon Barefoot Jr. gave
Briles three consecutive sentences,
including six months in the
Brunswick County Jail, followed by
two years in the N.C. Department of
Corrections, followed by another six
months in Brunswick County Jail.
