Trojans Sweep Softball Twin Bill West Brunswick's sofiball team kept its state playoff hopes alive last week with an important doublehead er sweep of West Columbus in Waccamaw 2-A Conference play. The Lady Trojans won the opener 9-7 and posted a 15-12 victory over the Lady Vikings in the nightcap last Tuesday in Shallotte. Jenny Judah and Chasity Hinesley both hit home runs as the Trojans pounded out 14 hits in the first game. West Brunswick recorded 19 hits in the second game, getting home runs from Judah, Hinesley and Emily Gore. "We hit the ball," West Bruns wick Coach Traccy James said. "When you hit the ball in this game you can win and we did." ' Despite a loss Friday at North Brunswick, the doublchcader sweep lifted West Brunswick into a third place tie with West Columbus going into the final week of the regular season. Both teams were 7-5 going into Tuesday's action, but West Bruns wick would win a tiebreaker be cause of the doublchcader sweep. The top three teams from the league will qualify for the state 2-A play offs, which begin next Tuesday. ** "That was a must win for us as far fc the conference was concerned," James said of the twin bill. "After that one we're still in the picture as far as the playoffs are concerned." The Lady Trojans were scheduled to host East Bladen Tuesday and travel to South Brunswick Thursday to close out the regular season. James was optimistic his Lady Trojans could win their final two games and make the state playoffs. "If we hot the ball like we did last week we'll win two this week," he said.
