Coniglio Takes First In Sea Trail Tourney Tom Coniglio posted a score of 10 under par to win the Sea Trail Men's Golf Association tournament "last Tuesday oil uie Byru course. Runners-up included Ron Schadlc at eight under. Ken Harris at seven under and Charlie Ferguson at the six under. Tied for fifth at five under were John Murphy, Gene Williams, A1 Consalvi, Don Lowcnstcn and Ro ger Young. Bob Erbach finished at four under par, followed Jim Baham, Bob Gra ham and John Gregory at three un der. John Pointer had low putts with 28. Joe Levey and Ed Bye were one back with 29 each. Marv Peters and Doug Mchne had 30 putts apiccc. Closest-to-thepin winners were Ferguson at the second hole, Consalvi at the seventh, Levey at the 12th and Peters at 16. Carolina Shores Ladies Docrthc Nccdham, Gloria Lucas, Dot Meadcr and Cissie Fleming shot 79 to win the Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Association tournament last Thursday. Teams counted one net ball on odd-numbered holes and two net scores on even-numbered holes. Finishing second with 84 was the foursome of Marylin Searby, Jean Palmer, Joan O'Neill and Jane Mahnckc (blind draw). Placing third, also with 84, was the team of Cynthia Omundscn, Elsie Rack, Irene Crane and Gladys Bowen (blind draw). Gerry Burdick, Jane Mahnckc, Edith Gricc and Blanche Johnson placed fourth with an 85. Searby chipped in at the ninth hole and had low putts with 29. Jean Krisher chipped in for birdie at the eighth hole and Sue Grcincr did the same at the 16th. Also making chip-ins were Flem ing at the fourth, Lois Hargrcavcs and Johnson at the sixth, Kathy Dcming at the ninth and Lucas at the 10th. Birdies were carded by Lynn Jerr at the fifth and Betty Kibblehouse at the eighth. Brierv/ood Ninettes The Bricrwood Ninettes recog nized winners for nine holes, even numbered holes and odd-numbered holes in their Nassau tournament last Friday. Ann Poison posted a net 37 for nine holes. Pat Narazinski had 38 on the odd-numbered holes, and Marcia Kartscn shot 41 on the even holes. Harriet Schulcr had a chip-in at the second hole and had low putts for the day. Tied for second low putts were Judy Durham, Jo Pater son, Alenc Sterner and Poison. Ginny Vrydaghs chipped in at the seventh hole. Making pars were Margaret Pingo at the first hole, Dcdc Havcnga at the second and Poison at the fifth and ninth. Calabash Veterans Wash Dayton, Bob Herre, Harry Knowles and Randy Spooner shot 121 to win the Calabalsh Veterans Golf Association event last Friday at Carolina Shores. Teams counted the two low net scores on each hole. Finishing sec ond with 121 was the foursome of Art McGinn, Herb Holcomb, Jose Lucero and Bill McDavit. Three teams tied for third with rounds of 125. Tee time is 8 a.m. Brierv/ood Men Two teams tied for first place in the Bricrwood Men's Golf Asso ciation nine-hole mixed scramble last Thursday. Fred Williams, George Clcasby, Dcdc Havcnga and Betty Macrkcr shot 35 to tie the threesome of Rose Rcitcr, Straud Macrkcr and Bob Warcheim. In other action last Thursday, the team of Joe Rciter, John Cowic, Charlie Slransky and Paul Kcclcy shot 297 to win a total team net event. Finishing four shots back in sec ond place was the team of Bill Goldsbcrry, Paul Dunfee, Barney Martin and Dick McDonald. On May 24, the Brierwood men held a team event in which the low net and high net scores were added together on each hole. Winning with a three-under-par 141 was the foursome of Dave Harper, Rick Rickbcil, Gary O'Conncll and Mau Monaghan. Placing second with a 143 was the team of Neal McCall, Jim Roach, Bob Allwein and Charlie Stransky. On May 23, Rick Rickbcil, Roy Havenga, Ethel Brown and Kay Allwein shot 65 to win the 18-holc mixed scramble. Second place in the captain's choice went to Jim Roach, A1 Beato, Marion Rockstroh and Sarah Mc Cullough with 67. Three teams tied for third with 69. Sea Trail Ladies Joan Llewellyn, Nin Consalvi, Mary Morris and Pat Burkart shot 37 to win the front nine in the Sea Trail Ladies Golf Association nine hole captain's choice last Wednesday on the Maples course. First place on the back nine went to the foursome of Kitty Smoker, Home Builders Plan Tourney The Brunswick County Home Builders Association is planning its first golf tournament with proceeds to benefit youth activities in the county. The Brunswick County Youth Activities Golf Tourney will be held Sunday, June 27, at The Gauntlet at St. James Plantation near Southport. The event starts at 1 p.m. The $50 per-player entry fee includes golf and a pig pickin* follow ing play. The top four teams will win prizes. There also will be a Calcutta, closest-to-thc-pin and long drive contests. The tournament will feature holc-in-onc contests on each of the course's par three holes. Prizes include a seven-day Carribean cruise, S10,(X)0 in cash, a set of Ram ZX golf clubs, and two round-trip USAir tickets good for anywhere in the United States. Coastal Clippers Compete In Myrtle Beach Shootout The Coastal Clippers of Shallouc competed in a national invitational basketball tournament last weekend at Coastal Carolina College in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Comprised of nine West Bruns wick High School athletes, the Clippers were eliminated from the 1993 Coastal Carolina Holiday Shootout after dropping back-to back cliffhangcrs Saturday to all-star teams from Winston-Salem and the Atlanta, Ga., area. The Shallottc team was defeated 65-62 by the Winston-Salem Boys Club Saturday morning and 76-73 by the Gwinnett Panthers of Lilbum, Ga., Saturday afternoon. In first-round action Friday night, the Clippers lost 115-74 to the Augusta (Ga.) Metro squad, the eventual tournament runner-up to the Midlands Basketball Association team from Columbia, S.C. Noting the shootout's high level of competition. Clippers Coach Rahn Adams praised his players' efforts against all-star opposition. McGee and Jeremy Child had two hits apiece for Brunswick County, which stole seven bases in the game. Post 68 was scheduled to play Burgaw Post 165 Tuesday night at Pender High School. The game orig inally slated for last Friday was post poned due to the high school base ball playoffs. Brunswick County's doubleheader at Raleigh Post 297 was rained out Sunday and will be made up later this season. Post 68 is scheduled to host Wilmington Post 10 Thursday night in Leland before traveling to Jacksonville Friday for a game with Post 265. Johnson paced the Clippers with a 19-point scoring average for the tournament, including 26 points against Gwinnett. He was followed by team captain Anthony Moody with an 18.3-point average.
