3 7 Brunswick Students Make UNCW Dean's List
Thirty-one Brunswick County
students have been named to the
spring semester dean's list at the
University of North Carolina at
Wilmington.
To make the dean's list, students
carrying 12-13 credit hours of
courscwork must earn a grade point
average of 3.5 or better with no
grade less than B. Students with 15
or more semester hours must earn a
GPA of 3.2 or better with no grade
less than B.

Three Shallotte students were
named to honor rolls at Coastal Car
olina University in Conway, S.C.,
for the spring semester.
Barbara Foehrkob and Chad N.
Shrevc made the chancellor's list for
being enrolled full-time and earning
a 4.0 grade point average.
Jacquelyn M. Thomas was named
to the dean's list.
Earns M.A. Degree
Jercmony C. Danford of Shallotte
received a masters of accounting de
gree from UNC-Chapel Hill during
the university's 191st commence
ment exercises May 16.
He has been accepted into law
school at UNC-CH.
Danford is the son of Jerry and
Carol Danford of Shallotte and the
grandson of Ruby Haddock and the
late Edith Danford.
Completes Course
Pvt. Tracic D. Farrington has
completed a petroleum supply spe
cialist course here.
Students received instruction in
receipt, storage, issue, shipping and
distribution of petroleum products
used by the Army. Also included in
the training were waterfront and
pipeline operations and health and
safety hazards.
Farrington is the daughter of
Nancy H. Farrington of Long Beach
and Larry E. Farrington of Moorcs
villc. '
School Of Arts Grad
Karen E. Blackmon of Yaupon
Beach was among graduates of the
N.C. School of the Arts during com
mencement ceremonies May 29 in
Winston-Salem.
Blackmon, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Carl F. Blackburn Jr. of
Country Club Drive, earned her high
school diploma. She was chosen for
the School of the Arts to pursue her
talent in modern dance.
'Good Conduct' Sailor
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class
Craig A. Cobb, son of Patricia A.
Cobb of Shallotte, recently received
the Navy Good Conduct Medal.
The medal recognizes his "honest
and faithful servicc during a four
year period," according to a news
release. To earn it, Cobb achieved
and maintained a satisfactory level
of performance and an unblemished
conduct record for the period.
He is assigned aboard the aircraft
carrier USS Saratoga, homcported in
Mayport, Fla.
The 1984 graduate of West
Brunswick High School joined the
Navy in February 1985.
Completes Training
Marine Pfc. Derek A. Stanley, son
of Linwood M. and Logenc W.
Stanley of McMilly Road, Shallotte,
recently completed recruit training.
During the training cycle at
Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San
Diego, recruits are taught the basics
of battlefield survival, introduced to
typical military daily routine, and
personal and professional standards.
All recruits participate in an ac
tive physical conditioning program
and gain proficiency in a variety of
military skills including firs', aid, ri
fle marksmanship and closc-ordcr
drill. Teamwork and sclf-disciplinc
are emphasized.
He is a 1992 graduate of West
Brunswick High School.
Helicopter Repairer
Pvt. 1st Class Steven E. Bryant
has graduated from a helicopter re
pairer coursc at Fort Eustis, Newport
News, Va.
During the coursc, he learned to
perform direct and general support
maintenance on helicopters. Also in
cluded were instruction in safety
practices, usage of ground support
equipment and spccial and precision
tools.
Bryant is the son of Davis Bryant
Sr. of Northwest Road, Leland. He
graduated from North Brunswick
High School in 1990.
Graham Decorated
Air Force Staff Sgt. Freddie D.
Graham has been decorated with the
Meritorious Service Medal, awarded
for "outstanding non-combat merito
rious achievement for service to the
United Slates."
Graham, an administrative spe
cialist, is the son of Dossie and
Reather Graham of Route 1, Riegcl
wood.
His wife, Ametta, is the daughter
of Linwood Ballard of Smith Trail
and Clara Bryant of Route 1, both of
Leland.
He graduated from Acme-Dclco
High School in 1972.

union for July 31.

Optimist Bike Winner
Hunter Hall was the winner of a bike given away at the South
Brunswick Islands Optimists Club Bicycle Rodeo held May 22 at
Shallotte Middle School. Hunter is the eight-year-old son of Perry
and Beryl Hall of Shallotte. Participants at the Bike Rodeo went
through an obstacle course and registered their bikes with the
Brunswick County Sheriff's Department so they can be identified if
they are stolen. Another rodeo is planned next year.
