Golfers competed in a better ball of twosome event Saturday on the Jones course, and moved to the Maples course Sunday for a half ag gregate of twosome. The winners shot 121.5. Tied for second at 126 were the teams of Doug Mehne and Doug Mchne Jr., and Bill Morris and Ed Gore. Byron Peterson and Donald Grow were fourth at 126.5, followed by Gene Williams and Tom Edwards with a two-day total of 127.5. Herb Gardner and Dick Zim merman placed sixth with 129, and Bill Walters and Chet Pannock took seventh with a score of 130. Other top finishers were Jim Baham and Vinnic Pragel with 130.5, Keith Curry and Joe Hasson with 131 and Don Lowcnstcn and Donny Lowcnstcn with 132. Awards for first-day scores went to Winston Stephens and John Williams, Willie Criswcll and Dean Walters, Howard Van Duscn and Ray Tschupp, and Wayne Tribblc and Stuart Thomas. Carolina Shores Men Chet Druin fired a net 63 to cap ture the overall championship in the Carolina Shores Men's Golf Association Flag Day tournament Saturday. In Flight A, Bob Russo led the way with net 68. Runners-up were John Crane with 69 and John Schwab and Bob Flack with rounds of 71. Bob Rcmais led Flight B with a 69. Bobbie Maples and Catherine Clemmons finished second with a 55, and Sara McCullough and Pier rette Tompkins placed third with a 56. Ruth Linder and Audrey Salmon shot 57 to tie foe fourth with Lois Beato and Jane Fleig. Tied for fifth at net 58 were Ann Causer and Helene Baker and the team of Lou Akers and Toni Kobos. Lois Beato had low putts for the day with 27. She was followed by Joanna Lang and Anzelone with 28 each. Making chip-ins were Causer at the fifth hole and Dodie Niland at the 16th. Nifty Niners Members of the Carolina Shores Nifty Niners competed for low gross and low net honors last Thursday at Ocean Isle Beach and Brierwood golf courses. Top finishers at Ocean Isle in cluded Charlotte Martin with gross 51, Peggy Goode with 58 and Chris Alcorn with 59. Jenny Garvey had the low net of 28. Three women tied at 29 and the order of finish was determined on a match of cards. Cynthia Swanson was second, Martin third and Jean Jann fourth. At Brierwood, Judy Redding had the low gross of 62 and low net of 25. Audrey Card was second in both divisions with gross 62 and net 32. Jane Taubcl took third with gross 66 and net 34. June Cleasby parred the third hole and was the top finisher. She was followed by Marion Allen and Ann Poison, who had a par at the sev enth. Dee Pratt parred the second hole and had low putts for the day. Tied for second low putts were Allen, Liz Bruce, Clcasby and Alice Micali, who parrcd the fourth. Carolina Shores Scramble Rob Wisener, Ray Ford, Joe Tiemcy and Mike Trayor shot 61 to win the Carolina Shorcs/Dcrbstcrs Scramble last Tuesday. Finishing one stroke back in sec ond place was the leant of Jack McRoberts, Tom Edwards, Mike Seek and Jimmy Johnson. Carolina Shores Ladies Helen Morrison and Dottie Russo shot 142 to win the Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Association two low net blind draw event last Thursday. Finishing second, also with 142, was the team of Sue Grciner and Edith Grice. Jackie Distler and Vera McCabe plaecd third, also with 142. Fourth place went to the twosome of Dottie Meadcr and Gloria Lucas with 144. Ellen Rose and Sally Manifold took fifth with 144. Distler had a chip-in at the sixth hole.
