BUSINESS BRIEFS Local Realtors Attend Meetings Eighl representatives of the South Brunswick Islands Board of Real tors recently attended the mid year business meeting of the North Carolina Association of Realtors Inc. (NCAR) June 2-4 at the North Raleigh Hilton Hotel, Raleigh. Attending were Bill Robertson, PCggy Stanley, Alan Holdcn, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williamson, Allen Dameron, Pat Fox and Limb Spi vey. The meeting included educational sessions and business meetings and an opportunity to discuss issues be fore the N.C. General Assembly af fecting current and prospective property owners, such as the seller's property condition disclosure, agency disclosure and land transfer taxes. At i barbecue luncheon for mem bers of the General Assembly, area Realtors met with local legislators Reps. David Rcdwinc and Dewey Hill and Sen. R.C. Soles to discuss these and other issues. IRS Offers Speakers The IRS offers speakers to pre sent seminars and talks on tax-relat ed topics as a public service. "Topics which seem to be of in terest to organizations at this time are updates regarding business in the home, employee versus contract la bor. tax law changes and the require ment to pay employee withholding lax on workers in the home," said Tita Wofford, public affairs officer with the Greensboro district IRS of fice. Taxpayers can easily check on die slalus of their tax return and/or lax refund by calling an automated lax information system operated by the IRS. Information on more than 140 federal lax topics is available to North Carolina residents by calling toll-free 1-800-829-4477. For relurn status, select tax refund information, then provide, when re quested, the taxpayer's social securi ty number, filing status and exact amount of lax refund expected. Trade-Related Short Courses Begin In June Four occupational courscs will be offered starting in late June by the Brunswick Community College Continuing Education Department. Participants can prepare to take the electrical contractors licensure exam or renew their license, become a notary public or qualify to conduct state auto safely inspections. Individuals who arc preparing to nkc the state licensing exam may take a licensure preparation class that will be offered Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 28 through Aug. 31. Licensed electrical contractors can get six hours in renewal credit by taking a renewal course offered Monday, June 21, and Tuesday, June 22, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The notary public course will be held Tuesday, June 22, and Thurs day, June 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ann Baccamey of the Brunswick County Register of Deeds office will teach the class in the law library of die Brunswick County Courthouse at the government center near Bolivia. A class for those who wish to qualify for North Carolina Safety Inspection Certification 1-40 Association Looking For Logo The 1-40 Association is looking for a logo. It is sponsoring a logo design competition that ends July 1. The winner will receive a S250 cash award. Entries should be 8 1/2- by 11 inchcs and the design should reflect some aspect of die Interstate 40 Eco nomic Impact Study Final Report. For more information, contact Mcl ba Lancy at 1-919-350-2202. The 1-40 Association was formed by representatives of counties along the interstate from Raleigh to Wilm ington and other counties, such as Brunswick, expected to benefit from its traffic.
