Coast Guard Searches For One Boat, Tows Another The U.S. Coast Guard rescued one stricken vessel from an approach ing storm and participated in a search for a missing sailboat last week, according to BMCS J.D. Arndt, chief of the USCG station on Oak Island. At about 2:45 p.m. Friday, the station received a call from the Coast Guard's district office that the 36-foot saiiboat Ephesians was repuiied overdue on a trip from Holdcn Beach to Jacksonville, Fla. The boat was last seen leaving the area last Monday (June 21). The Oak Island station began a communications search with all local marinas in the area, but was unable to locate the vessel, Arndt said. Later that day the district office called to report that "Ephesians" had been lo cated outside its jurisdiction. On Sunday at about 3 p.m., the station received a call from the vessel "Lost Cause," reporting that the boat was v,(okcn down approximately seven miles off Shallotte Inlet. The station notified its 21 -foot quick -re sponse inflatable boat, which was already in the area, to investigate. The station also issued a Marine Radio Assistance (MAD) broadcast to give commercial towing services an opportunity to assist the strickcn boat, but with nega'ive results, Amdt said. Arriving on the scene, the crew of the 21 -footer found that the "Lost Cause" was having problems with its water pump. "Due to an approaching squall line and ensuing nightfall ? circum stances which could possibly cause unsafe conditions, creating an emer gency ? the 21 -footer took the vessel in tow to Calabash," Arndt said. Rose Tells E-Mail Address Congressman Charlie Rose, D-7th District, has made public his address under the pilot Constituent Electronic Mail System (CEMS). Once a constituent has been iden tified, the person will send messages to Rose's Internet address: CROSE2HR.HOUSE.GOV As chairman of the Committee on House Administration, Ross initiat ed the CEMS pilot program earlier this month to "evaluate the potential benefits of electronic mail commu nication between U.S. citizens and their elected officials," according to a news release.
