The Rev. Dr. Allen McKeithan officiated the double ring ceremony. Pianist and soloist was Rhonda Benton of Calabash. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam T. Johnson of Raleigh and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dallas McKeithan of Ash and the late Mr. and Mrs. David Johnson of Bolivia. The groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Halbert W. Spencer of Louisburg. Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown designed and made by her mother. The peau de soie satin gown featured a low-cut jewel neck line. close-fitting shaped bodice, dropped waistline and pouf sleeves. The waistline had scalloped lace edging and dropped into a flared skirt with cathtJral-length train. The bodice and skirt were trimmed with seed pearls, irridescent sequins and crystal bugle beads. She wore a fingertip veil of bridal illusion trimmed with roses, seed pearls and pearl sprays, also made by iici iiiuiiicr. She cumcu a cascade bouquet of white and Sonya roses. The bride chose her brother, Sam Johnson of Raleigh, and a friend. Terry W. Hollingswoth of Wilmington, as her honor atten dants. The bridemaias were Lynne Spencer Stailings of Leland. Wendy Spender and Phyllis Brown of Wilmington and Karin Johnson of Raleigh. Rower girl was Amber Stailings of Leland. The groom chose his son, Harold W. Spencer Jr. of Greensboro, as his best man. Groomsmen were Jeff Stailings of Leland, Mike Teleky of Carolina Beach and Thomas Mabry of Ash. Joshua Stailings of Leland was ring-bearer. Caleb Long of Ash was Bible-bearer. Elks Scholarship Winners Announce College Choices Four West Brunswick High School students winning scholar ships from Calabash Elks Lodge 2679 have decided on their schools. Checks have been mailed to the institutions the students chose to as sist them in furthering their educa tion. Amy Caison, winner of a $1,000 scholarship, is off to N.C. Calabash Elks Lodge awards scholarships to WBHS students each year. Keill. have been selected to participate in Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics June 20 July 27 at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. Offered by the University of North Carolina and administered by the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, the six Ventures institutes comprise the na tion's largest research-oriented, cost free, residential summer program. The program is open to rising ju niors and seniors whose parents are North Carolina residents, with selec tion based on academic ability, sci ence and mathematics motivation and emotional maturity. Students attend classes, seminars and labs six days a week. Taught mainly by university professors, they learn about experimental de sign, laboratory skills, instrumenta tion, mathematical modeling, strate gies in problem-solving and ex ploratory data analysis. "The institutes challenge students to draw conclusions from data and experiences they acquire indepen dently. rather than simply to review the conclusions of others," said Wil liam Youngblood, state coordinator. They also have a chance to learn about careers in science and math, social issues related to science, and communication skills for math and science competitions.
