CHURCH ACTIVITIES Wing Dedication Is Sunday Calabash Presbyterian Church will dedicate its new education and activity wing Sunday, July 18, as part of the 9:30 a.m. worship ser vice. The Rev. Dr. Robert Miller, exec utive presbyter. Coastal Carolina Presbytery, will give the dedication message. Organized in February 1990 un der the leadership of the Rev. Jerry McCann, that November the church called its first pastor, the Rev. Dr. Francis Womack. It dedicated its first building a year later. The addition provides need class room and activity space for the growing church, a news release indi cated. The unit includes a large meeting room, choir room, nuiscry kindcrgartcn room and two addition al classrooms. Calabash Presbyterian is a mem ber of Coastal Carolina Presbytery, Presbyterian Church (USA). It is lo cated on Georgetown Road near Calabash. Griffin At Chapel The Rev. Dr. J.L. Griffin will be the guest speaker at The Holden Beach Chapel Sunday, July 18. The pastor of the week is a Luthcm minister from Concord. Worship service begias at 11 a.m. at the chapel, with a nursery provid ed. Sunday school is at 10 a.m. Speaker To Appear At New Life, Aglow New Life Assembly wifrhold two special services Sunday, July 18, at 10 a.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Carol Richardson of Bath, who will also be guest speaker for Saturday's meeting of the Southporl Wo men's Aglow. Richardson is on the Board of Laity for the Greenville Dis trict United Me thodist Chur ches. She was RICHARDSON certified as a lay speaker in the United Methodist Church in 1980 and has since con ducted many preaching services, re vivals and seminars, as well as preaching in churches other than the Methodist denomination. She has appeared on television to give her testimony of having come out of 12 years of "New Age" be liefs, "such as spiritism, reincarna tion, and so on," according to a news release. "It is only through the keeping power of the Holy Spirit and a thor ough knowledge of God's word that a Christian can stand against the se ductive powers of the spirits behind false religions," Richardson is quot ed as saying. Ronnie McCray Jr., and congregation of New Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church broke ground Saturday, July 10, for a permanent worship facility. The 11 a.m. service was held at the building site on N.C. 211 south of Supply. Organized in April 1992, the church began meeting first in the homes of members and since last July has been meeting at Bolivia Elementary School. Trustees of the church arc Shirley Bernard, Howard Robinson and Lee Bullock. Johnston To Speak Ralph J. Johnston, superintendent of the Brunwswick County Schools, will be the guest minister Sunday, July 18, for the 10:15 a.m. worship service at Oak Island Presbyterian Church. Sunday school begins at 9:15 a.m. The church is located at 1503 Oak Island Drive, Long Beach. Adds Earty Service Brunswick Islands Baptist Church is offering an early worship service at 8:30 am. Sunday through the month of July in addition to its regu lar 11 a.m. worship service and 10 a.m. Sunday school. July 18 has been designated high attendance Sunday, as members work to set an attendance record for Sunday school and worship services. Also, the church was to hold a fami ly night dinner and service Wednesday, July 14, at 6 p.m. The congregation is continuing to meet at its Holden Beach Road loca tion next to True- Value Hardware Store while awaiting a certificate of occupancy for its new church on Mt. The funeral was July 8 at Johnson Chapel AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Thurman B. Everett officiating. Burial was in Grainger Cemetery. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, the Rev. Liston Edison Moore; three daughters, Lottie Beat ty and Frances Petty (Rush), both of Leland, and Carol Moore of the home; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. KAY HEWETT RAYNOR Kay Hewett Raynor, 59, of Le land, died July 6 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilm ington. The funeral was July 8 in Leland Baptist Church, with the Rev. Billy Buchanan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Raynor was born in Shal lottc on July 14, 1933, the daughter of the late Dorothy Millikcn and Willie Haspcr Hewett Sr. Survivors include her husband, Alton L Raynor Sr. of the home; a son, Alton L. Raynor Jr. of Leland; a daughter, Mrs. Tommy (Angela) Ray of Leland: two brothers, James Hewett of Shailotte and Tony Hew ett of Supply; a sister, Betty Hewett Thorpe of Leland; and a grandson, Adam Nash. JUNE I. K1LIAN June I. Kilian, 68, of Lcland, died June 28 at Genesee Memorial Hos pital, Batavia, N.Y. The funeral was July 1 at Salem United Church of Christ, Benning ton, N.Y. Survivors include her husband, Neal I. Kilian of the home; two sons, Leslie and Larry Kilian of New York; a daughter, Elaine Stacbell of Leland; and six grandchildren. LYCIA L. CLIFTON Susan Lycia Leonard Clifton, 80, of Shailotte, and formerly of Whiteville, died July 7 at Shoreland Retirement, Whiteville, after an ex tended illness. She was the mother of six children, a homemakcr, and a partner of her late husband. Joel Curtis Clifton Sr. The funeral was July 9 in Old Shailotte Baptist Church, Grissct town, with the Rev. Ivren Hughes officiating. Entombment was in Palmyra Baptist Church Cemetery, Columbus County. Worthington of Wilmington and Elizabeth (Lizzie) L. Garriss of Watha; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lundy L. Hewett, and a broth er, William Lloyd Leonard. EUNICE PARKER CHAD WICK Eunice Parker Chadwick of Shal lotte died July 9 in The Brunswick Hospital. She was 82. The funeral was July 11 in Village Point United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bob Tillcy and the Rev. Mau rice Lancaster officiating. Burial was in Gurganus Cemetery, Village Point Road, Shallotte. Born in Brunswick County on March 27, 1911, she was a daughter of the late George Willie and Cor rine Gore Parker. She was the wid ow of James W. Chadwick. Survivors include a son, William D. "Billy" Chadwick of Huntersville; two daughters, Gwen C. Rogers of Hampstead and Yvonne "Pug" C. Hoyc of Warrenton, Va.; a sister, Mary P. Stanaland, Ash; 10 grand children; and five great-grandchil dren. The family asked that memorials be made to Village Point United Methodist Church and/or Shallotte Volunteer Rescue Squad. WILLIAM THOMAS DORSEY William Thomas Dorsey, 38, of Ocean Isle Bcach, died July 8 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. A funeral Mass was held July 10 at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, Shallotte. Dorsey was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 26, 1954, and was the son of William and Mary Mulvey Dorsey of Groton, Conn. Survivors in addition to his par ents include his wife. Rose Marie Dorsey of the home; four sons, Nathan Dorsey, Daniel Dorsey, Steven Dorsey and Brian Dorsey, all of Carlisle, Pa.; and a stepson. Ran dy Green of the home; two brothers, Vincent Dorsey of Hollywood, Ala., and Richard Dorsey of the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Gcmany; two sis ters, Kathy Garricty and Ann Marie Keeler, both of Groton, Conn. MALCOLM H. REGISTER Malcolm Heath "Mack" Register, 55, of Long Bcach, died July 9 from injuries received in a highway acci dent. He was a 20-year veteran of the Long Beach Parks and Recreation Department. Born in Brunswick County on March 22, 1938, he was a son of the late Ralph Waldo and Susie Ettic Register. Survivors include two brothers, Robert "Bo" Register of Long Beach and James M. Register of Emerald Isle; and five sisters, Viola "Vi" R. Woods an Diane R. Jones, both of Long Beach, Marilyn R. Tripp and Jean C. Benton, both of Shallotte, and Jackie C. Beaulieu of Wilmington. The funeral was July 12 in Ocean View United Methodist Church, Yaupon Beach, by the Rev. Fred Roberts. Burial was in Gurganus Ce metery, Village Point Road, Shal lotte. Memorials may be made to Long Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad or Ocean View United Methodist Church, Yaupon Beach. EVA ALLEN WOOTEN GRAHAM Eva Allen Wootcn Graham, 51, of Ash, died July 10 at her residence. The funeral was conducted July 13 in the Brunswick Funeral Ser vice, Shallotte, by the Rev. Hazel Carver and the Rev. James A. Whit worth. Burial was in Brunswick Memorial Gardens, Shallotte. She was born in New Hanover County on Jan. 19, 1942, a daughter of Irene Suggs Kornegay of Warsaw and the late Yancey Wootcn. Survivors in addition to her moth er include her husband, Rufus H. Graham of the home; a son, Harold Allen Graham of Raleigh; two daughters, Miranda Barefoot of Newton Grove and Anita Lewis of Little River, S.C.; two brothers, Ray Komegay and Bill Kornegay, both of Warsaw; and five grandchildren. HELEN RIDDLE PETERSON Helen Riddle Peterson of Castle Hayne died July 9 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilm ington. Murphy of Leland; nine sisters; two brothers; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. WILLIE J.THOMAS The funeral for Willie J. Thomas of Longwood was to be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. M.C. Herring, pastor, officiat ing. Burial was planned in the church cemetcry. Thomas was a deacon of the church. Survivors include four daughters, Alice Hubbard, Willa Mae Greene, Earlene Harris and Rochelle Wilson; and two sons, Edward Thomas and Ben Thomas. JAMES FRANKLIN LOWDER James Franklin Lowder, 77, of Sunset Beach, died July 12 in the VA Mcdical Center, Fayettevillc. A graveside funeral was to be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, in Brunswick Memorial G<uikiu>, Snaiiuiie, by the Rev. Steven E. Lowder. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hester Lowder of the home; two sons, James F. Lowder Jr. of Raleigh and Steven E. Lowder of Anchor age, Alaska; two daughters, Cathy M.
