Four people were injured when this 1986 Plymouth pulled into the path of a dump truck headed south on U.S. 17 at the Ml. Pisgah Road intersection. Wilkes said the driver of the car, iMverne Hill of Supply, was charged with running a stop sign. Hill and three passengers were taken to The Rrunswick Hospital for treatment. Patrol Continuing Investigation Of Pedestrian Death On N.C. 1 30 ITic N.C. Highway Patrol is con tinuing its investigation of an acci ilcnt near Ash July 7, in which a pedestrian from Michigan died when he was struck by a vehicle. Lyle Dean Andrews, 25, of Cop persvillc, Mich., was the sixth high way fatality of the year in Bruns wick County, according to a spokes man for the N.C. Highway Patrol of fice in Wilmington. According to the report filed by Trooper J.H. Kerr, driver William Allen Dixon Jr., 22, of Denton, was traveling cast on N.C. 130 at ap proximately 11 p.m., about 12 miles west of Shallotte. He observed a pedestrian in the roadway, and swerved his 1990 Datsun truck onto the right shoulder to avoid striking the person. However, the report indicated the pedestrian ran south across N.C. 130 and into the path of the truck. The truck struck the pedestrian on the right shoulder of the roadway about two feet off the paved portion of the highway. When Kerr's investigation is completed, the findings will be tak en to the Brunswick County District Attorney's office and charges will be determined, a patrol spokesman said Tuesday. Neither Dixon nor the two pas sengers in his truck were injured. Damage to the truck was estimated at $4,000. One person was injured in an ac cident Friday, July 9, in which the two vehicles involved never made contact. At approximately 3:45 p.m., two vchiclcs were traveling west on S.R. 1437 about 1.3 miles west of Lc land, according to the report filed by Trooper D.B. Harvcll. Ronald Westlake, 37, of Southport, slopped his 199() Suzuki to make a left turn, and the driver following behind him in a 1991 Pontiac, Lisa Marie Davis, 1 7, of Lcland, attempted to pass. Westlake saw the Davis vehicle and stopped; meanwhile Davis pulled to the left to avoid striking the Westlake vchiclc, lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road on the left. The Pontiac struck a ditch and overturned. Davis was transported to Cape Fear Memorial Hospital in Wilm ington with serious, non-incapacital ing injuries. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at S2,5(X). No charges were filed. A driver was charged with care less and reckless driving following a one-vehicle accident Saturday, July 10, near Lcland. The accident occurred at 1 1 p.m. about six miles south of Lcland on Town Creek Road (S.R. 1413) at its intersection with Rock Creek Road (S.R. 1411). Tammy Rabon, 25, of Lcland, was driving south in a 1992 Ford truck on Town Creek Road and at tempted a right turn onto Rock Creek Road. Her vchiclc was going too fast to make the turn and struck a stop sign, according to the report filed by Trooper D.A. Lewis. The truck con tinued off the shoulder of the road and struck a ditch. Damage was esti mated at S3.500. Rabon was not injured, but a pas senger, Britt Tabor of Leland, com plained of injuries. State Parks Hearing Set For July 20 The N.C. Divison of Parks and Recreation will hold a regional pub lic hearing in Eli/.abcthlowit to seek information on the need for recre ation resources in the suite parks system. The hearing is set for Tuesday, July 20, at 7 p.m. in the Bladen County Library on Cypress Street. The information will be used to update die State Park Systemwide Plan. The Suite Parks Act, which estab lishes the purposes and principles of the State Parks System, was ap proved by the N.C. General As sembly in 1987. The act requires de velopment of a statewide plan iden tifying the need for growth in pro tecting the state's natural features. The plan, first published in 1988, is to be revised every five years.
