Gerry Burdick Wins Carolina Shores Queen Bee Tournment Gerry Bunlick shot nci 61 and was the overall winner of the Car olina Shores Ladies Golf Assoc iation Queen Bee Tournament held July 15 and 22. Golfers counted the best 18 of their 36 holes, using full handicaps. Burdick also had low putts in the tournament w ith 28. Sally Manifold won the first flight w ith a score of net 70. She defeated Dottie Meader on a match of cards. Second flight winner was Sue Greiner with a round of 67. Grciner edged Ruth Radcliffc and Peg Saw yer. Dottie Russo won the third flight with a score of net 66. Inky Rcmais lost out on a card match. Use Bateman was the winner in the fourth flight with a score of 65. Birdies were made by Sawyer and Jean Spcrry at the eighth hole and Manifold at the 16th. Carding chip-ins were Dottie Russo at the second hole, Rcmais at the 12th, Phyllis Ottc at the 14th, Cynlhia Omundsen at the 17th and Spcrry at the 18th. Sea Trail Ladies Lynnc Nichols fired a gross 83 to lead the first flight in the Sea Trail Ladies Golf Association tournament last Wednesday. Joan Llewellyn and Kitty Smoker shared low net honors in the top flight with rounds of 70 on the Jones course. In the second flight, first-place finishers were Ann Holman with gross 87 and Carol Patridge with net 69. Betty Gcescy had the low gross of 107 in the third flight. Phyllis Manfred had low net with 75. Leading the fourth flight was Marge Gallop with gross 1 12. Sylvia Hasson and Carol Peters tied for low net with 79. Joan Worley had the only birdie of the day. It came at the fifth hole. Calabash Veterans Joe Ready and Don Mahnckc shot net 58 to lead the A and B Flight in the Calabash Veterans Golf Assoc iation better ball of twosome event last Friday at Brierwood. Runncrs-up included Herman Thompson and Ed Hennessey with a round of 60. Tied for third at net 61 were Bill McDavit and Cliff Massey, and Wash Dayton and Bill Reese. In the C and D Flight, first place went to the team of Bob Greenwood and Don Mahnckc (blind draw) with net 54. Lew Meyer and Bob Davis fin ished second with 58. Bob Erbach and Dave Becker took third with net 60. Three teams tied for third with net 61. They were Mo Mosher and Harry Birnie, Bob Phillips and Lou Sommers, and Harry Knowles and Lcn Henderson. The Calabash Veterans will play this Friday at Cypress Bay. Show time is 7:30 a.m. Golfers may vheose their own foursomes lor the Stableford points event. Brierwood Ladies Doris Dunfce shot gross 35 and Ann Causer had net 25.5 to lead the first flight in the Brierwood Ladies Golf Association tournament last Tuesday. Sara McCullough had the second low net of 27.5, and Lois Beato had low putts in the top flight with 29. Golfers counted scores on even numbered holes on the front nine and odd-numbered holes on the back nine and used half of their handicaps. In the second flight, Ginny Campbell and Hclcnc Baker tied for low gross with scores of 38. Cath erine Clemmons had the low net of 27.5, and Esther Smith had low putts with 31. Alice Struck, Emily Laughlin and Lou Akers tied for low gross honors in the third flight with rounds of 45. Dee Pratt had the low net of 31 , and Akers had low putts with 30. Top finishers in the fourth flight were Betty Blough with gross 46 and Louise Blizzard with net 29. Carolina Shores Men Murray Palmer fired net 67 to tead the first flight in the Carolina Shores Men s Golf Association tour nament last Saturday. Runners-up in the top flight were Bill Haupt, Pat O'Neill and Ken Earl, all with rounds of 70. Hank Hettinger led the sccond flight with net 70. Finishing sccond also with 70, was Ted Paiiwoda.' Other top finishers were Curly Anzich with 71 and Pat Lupia with Closest-to-thc-pin winners were Lupia at the third hole, Haupt at the eighth, Dick Malatesia at the 12th and Dick Derrickson at the 16th. Ruth's Renegades Mary Chile shot 54.5 to win the Kuths Renegades "tec to green" tournament last Thursday at Eagles Nest. Runners-up were Jan Kilgore wiih 55 and RuLh Brown with 57.5. Kilgore had the overall low gross of 113 and low net of 75. She also had a chip-in for birdie at the sixth hole. Other chip- ins were made by Do ns Brooke at the fourth hole and bvelyn Fitzgerald at the ninth. Sea Trail Men The team of Jim Jones, Bill Mil ler, Bob Moore and Bob Gallick shot \22 to win the Sea Trail Men's Go. Association event last Tuesday. Playing the Jones course, teams ? ,hc two low net scores on each hole. Taking sccond with a 123 was the foursome of Joe Hasson, Gene Bilz, Keith Curry and Herb Yost. Ron Hayes. Willie Criswcll, John Gregory and Bill Kimball finished third, also with 123. Placing fourth with a round of 1 26 was the team of Stan Risch, Bill Pike, Clarence Brown and Bill Burkan. Closest-to-thc-pin winners were Roger Young at the sccond hole. Hasson at the fifth, George Gallop at the 13th and Curry at the 1 7th. Nifty Niners Members of the Carolina Shores Nifty Niners competed for low gross and low net honors last Thursday at Ocean Isle Beach and Brierwood golf courscs. Top finishers at Ocean Isle in cluded Charlotte Martin with gross 60 and Ellen Erickscn with 62. On a match of cards, Martha Hannon edged Pat Price for third place with gross 72. Hannon also had the low net of 31. She was followed by Erickscn with 34 and Martin with 39. At Brierwood, Audrey Card had the low gross of 66. She edged Jane Taubcl on a match of cards, and Jean Cardiff was third with gross 69. Taubcl fired the low net of 35. Other top finishers were Cardiff with net 37 and Card with 38. In the July 15 tournament, Card had the low gross of 60 and Taubel was sccond with 61 at Brierwood. Taubel had net 30 and Card finished with net 32. Edna O'Conncll had the low gross at Ocean Isle with 58. On a card match, Dec Gillin was sccond with 61 and Kathleen Brcnnan was third. On another match of cards, Gillin had the low net with 34. Jane Abar no was sccond and Cynthia Swan son placed third. Br/erwood Men Roy Havcnga finished with cighi points and took first placc in the Bncrwood Men's Golf Association points tournament last Thursday. Golfers earned two points for a net eagle, one for birdie, zero for par. minus one for bogey and minus two for double bogey. Runners-up included Bill Miller with six points and Bill Allen with five. Jim Roach and Odic Johnson tied for fourth with zero points each. Tied for fifth at minus one were Enulc Vrydaghs, Bill Goldsberry and Bob Allwcin. In other play last Thursday, the team of Jim Bryant, Dick Baxter, June Clcasby and Marcia Kartscn won the nine-hole mixed scramble with a 33. Greg Bouldin, Dillon Taylor, Mike Williams and Alice Micali placed second with 36. On July 19, the Bncrwood men hosted a two best ball event. Bill Pingo, Rick Rickbcil, Bob Allwcin and Bob Sterner placed first at 20 under par. Finishing second at 17 under par was the team of Ncal McCall, A1 Butler, Jciry Smith and Matt Mon aghan. CS Travel League John Farley and Ed Jacobs shot 56 to lead the first flight in the Carolina Shores Men's Travel League best ball of twosome event last Friday at Colonial Charters. Tom Hoskinson and Tony Basilc (blind draw) finished second with 58. Other top teams were Chet Palesko and Bill McCroskcy with 59 and Dick Stewart and Tony Basilc with 60. Lions Tourney Raises $2,200 The Shallotlc Lions Club raised more than S2.200 at its captain's choice golf tournament held July 17 on the Jones course at Sea Trail Plantation in Sunset Beach. All proceeds will be used to help people with vision or hearing prob lems. The tournament attracted 35 teams. The team of Rusty Burgess, Chris Finaren, Tripp Jackson and AI Blunt took first placc in the tournament with a score of net 57. Finishing second with net 59 was the threesome of Steve Freeman, Joe Moses and Jody Moses. Taking third with a net 60 was the all- female team of Jesse Simmons, JoAnn Simmons, Julia Hayes and Fay Dickcrson. Yasumasa Kusomoto had the longest drive of the day, 290 yards. Atlantic Telephone Holds Golf Tourney with a round of 60. Tim David Babson and Ricky Holdcn fired a net 56 to win the first At lantic Telephone Membership Corp. company golf tournament July 18 at Brick Landing Plantation. Finishing second in the two-man captain's choice event was the team of Dclanc Stanley and Larry Hitcs a round of 60. Tim Ivcy and Dan Russ were third with 62. Ten teams participated in the tour nament, which was followed by a cookout.
