California Bound
Cane Faircloth of Holdett Reach pauses for a photograph before

fied for the contest in the junior men's division at the Mid-Atlantic
Regional Championships in Dewey Reach , Dei, last May. Fair
cloth, who can often be seen terrorizing the waves at the llolden
Reach Fishing Pier , also plans to compete in the Eastern Surfing
Association Championships at llatteras next September. He said
he owes much of his success to his parents, Jamie and Sheri Fair
cloth, who are helping with travel expenses.
County Offering Trips
It's 1101 100 late to register for
three upcoming trips planned by the
Brunswick County Parks and Recre
ation Department.
The trips and deadlines for sign
ing up arc as follows:
?Carowinds. This day trip is for
anyone over age 2 1 . Cost is S 1 5 for
those age 50 and older and S32 for
others, including transportation and
admission ticket. Deadline is Aug. 8.
Ask about a discount available for
the S32 ticket.
?Spencer Shops/Rccd Gold Mine at
Stanficld. This day trip includes a
train excursion, museum visit, cafe
lunch, film, underground tour and
?
stamp mill visit at Reed Gold Mine.
Cost is S20 per person, not including
breakfast or supper. Deadline is
Aug. 23.
?Washington, D.C. This three-day
trip includes hotel accommodations,
breakfast bullet, a riding tour of the
cily and full schedule of sightseeing
stops including the Vietnam Vete
rans Memorial, a dinner theater per
formance and lunch for SI 50 per
person (double occupancy), but not
meals while traveling. Deadline is
Aug. 31.
