Area Deaths And Funerals DOROTHY CARTER MINT'/, Dorothy Carter Mintz, 93, of Little River, S.C., died Aug. 3 in Autumn Care of Shallotte following an illness. The funeral was Aug 5 at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Hickman's Crossroads, with Elder Newell Helms and Elder W.M. Benton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Mint/, was bom in Hick man's Crossroads, a daughter of the late William Manuel and Ella Ward Carter. She was a member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She was the widow of Robert Walter Mint/.. Survivors include two sons, Walter LeRoy Mint/ and W.C. Mint/., both of Little River, two daughters. Opal Livingston of Greenville, S.C., and Faye Leonard of Calabash; two sis ters, Nellie McLamb and Maggie Rowland, both of Calabash; 16 grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren; and grcat-grcat-grand children. Billy Buchanan and the Rev. S.L. Doty. Burial was in Leland Baptist Church Cemetery. Born Jan. 11, 1971, in Wilm ington, he was the son of James B. and Norma Fowler Sholar of Leland. An avid softball player, he was a member of the L.A. Lions in the Brunswick County Men's League. He was a member of Leland Baptist Church and the Cabin Hunting Club. Survivors in addition to his parents arc his wife, Teresa Todd Sholar of the home; two sisters, Paula Sholar Cokcr of Ricgelwood and Dawn Sholar of Leland; his maternal grand mother, Gladys Fowler of Leland; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Born in Columbus County, Rev. Connor attended Louisburg College, Emory University and Atlantic Christian College and graduated from Duke University with a degree in divinity. The funeral was Aug. 9 in the chapel of Southport Baptist Church, followed by a graveside scrvicc at Lake Waccarnaw Cemetery, Lake Waccamaw. JACK W. PHILLIPS Jack W. Phillips, 65, of Long Beach, died Aug. 9 at his residence. A graveside scrvicc was held Aug. 1 1 in Northwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Fred Roberts officiating. Mr. Phillips was born April 27, 1928, in Charlotte, a son of the late Mamie Whilesidcs and William B. Phillips Sr. He moved to Brunswick County from Mint Hill in 1971. He was a carpenter, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a charter and life time member of Oak Island VFW Post No. 10226, and a charter mem ber of Oak Island Elks Lodge No. 2769.
