Llewellyn Wins Sea Trail Ladies Championship
Joan Llewellyn posted a two-day
total of 167 to win the championship
tlight in last week's inaugural Sea
Trail Ladies Golf Association Club
Championship.
Pal Reid finished second in the
top flight with gross 171. The tour
nament was held last Wednesday
and Thursday on the Byrd course.
Llewellyn and Reid each had three
birdies.
Top finishers in the first flight
were Carol Patridge with 184, Jan
Rick with 187 and Joan Worley with
187. Rick edged Worley for second
place on the second playoff hole.
In the second flight, Betty Street
led the way with a score of 209. She
was followed by Phyllis Manfred
with 215.
Nancy Mehnc won the third flight
with a score of 217. Placing second
with 228 was Marge Gallop.
In the nine-hole division, Joanne
Slimmer led the field with 114.
Runncrs-up were Marie Munn with
1 16 and Marge Bach with 124.
Also making birdies last week
were Kitty Smoker, Robin Walters
with two, Worley, Patridge and Eva
Baham.
In the Sea Trail Ladies nine-hole
total putts tournament July 28, first
place went to the team of Frances
Williams, Shirley Helmkc, Flo Ruff
and Ruth French with 64 total putts.
Finishing second with 69 putts
was the foursome of Pal Reid,
Phyllis Manfred, Irene Jones and
Dot DeFcrie.
Joan Llewellyn, Jane Bye, Marge
Bach and Nancy Kushner had 71
putts to tie for third place with
Robin Walters, Marie Munn, Belly
Street and Carolyn Young.
Nifty Niners
Members of the Carolina Shores
Nifty Niners played for low gross
and low net honors last Thursday at
Brierwood and Ocean Isle Beach
golf courses.
Top finishers at Ocean I^lc in
cluded Chris Alcom with gross 58,
Edna O'Connell with 59 and Jeanne
Shields with 62. Low net winners
were Jean Romero with 31, Alcom
with 34 and O'Connell with 36.
Posting low gross scores at
Brierwood were Jaye Arlotta with
64, Jane Taubcl with 68 and Audrey
Card with 69. Leading the low net
division were Taubcl with 37,
Cardiff with 37 and Arlotta with 39.
On July 29, each member of the
Nifty Niners reduced scores on their
two worst holes to par.
Low gross winners at Ocean Isle
were Charlotte Martin with 49,
Kathleen Brennan with 51 and Mary
Helen Leisey with 52. Shooting the
low net st ores were Martha Hannon
with 14, Brennan with 18 and Jenny
Garvey with 21.
Card had the low gross of 54 and
low net of 26 at Brierwood. Taubcl
shot gross 63 and net 32 to finish
second in both divisions.
Carolina Shores Men
Bill Higgins and Jack McAleer
fired net 61 to win the Carolina
Shores Men's Golf Association
Member-Member Tournament last
Saturday.
Don Errickson and Bob Lovaty
also shot net 61 and, on a match of
cards, finished second in the best
ball of twosome event.
Pat O'Neill and Bob Rack placed
third with net 62. Three teams tied at
net 63 and the order of finish was
determined on a card match.
Placing fourth were Hank Clark
and Chct Drouin. Dick Dcrrickson
and Bob Spicknall were fifth, fol
lowed by Murray Palmer and Chuck
Radcliffe.
Closcst-to-thc-pin winners were
Joe Vulpin at the third hole. Bill
Haupt at the eighth at 16th holes and
Russ Nickens at the 12th.
Brierwood Ninettes
Carol Soucie shot net 11 to win
the Brierwood Ninettes tournament
last Friday. Golfers counted scores
on par 3 and par 5 holes only.
Runners-up were Julie McCall
with net 12 and Marian Allen with
net 13. Soucie had a par at the
eighth hole, and Liz Bruce chipped
in at the first.
Pal Narazinski and McCall tied
for low putts with 12 apiece. Tied
for second with 16 putts each were
Allen, Soucie and Shirley Eifcrt.
Calabash Veterans
Alan Kletchka and Don Mahncke
shot net 56 to win the Calabash
Veterans Golf Association better ball
of twosome event last Friday at
Brierwood.
Finishing three shots back in sec
ond place was the team of A1
Bran ham and Pat Varney.
On a match of cards, Chester
Drouin and Bob Johnson placed
third with a round of 60. Cliff Mas
sey and Herman Thompson placed
fourth, and Ed Jackson and Randy
Spooncr took fifth.
Finishing sixth with 61 was the
team of Fred Hall and Jerry Russ.
They edged Bill Scip and John
Marcotte on a card match. Wash
Dayton and Bob Maloy were eighth
with net 62.
The Calabash Veterans will play
this Saturday at Bcachwood Golf
Club. Show time is 7:30 a.m.

event last Thursday.
Teams counted one low net ball
and one low gross ball on each hole.
Finishing second with 152 was the
foursome of Flo Warren, Kathy
Deming, May Robertson and Shirley
Vazquez.
Warren had a hole in one at the
12th hole. Ann Hicrman chipped in
for birdie at the 15th and made an
other chip-in at the first. She also
had low putts with 28. Also chip
ping in was Alice Abbene at the
12th.
Carding birdies were Elsie Flack,
Dorcen Spearin and Peg Sawyer at
the eighth hole; Ellen Rose at the
1 2th ; and Russo at the 1 6th .
Lockwood Shootout
Mike Eaton and Carl Sapicnza
finished at plus 10J4 to win the
weekly Shootout last Wednesday at
Lockwood Golf Links.
Finishing second at plus 5 were
Ron Steele and Max Jarrcll. Ike
Shelton and Jimmy Sandcrford had
plus 3 to tie for third place with the
team of Harold Gephardt and Fred
McGcc.

Two teams tied for first place in

Playing the Maples course, the
men counted one net ball on each
par 5, two balls on each par 4 and
three balls on each par 3.
Dick Hawcs, Don Lowcnstcn,
Augic Douglass and Jim Baham
shot 117 to tie the foursome of Joe
Esola, Ed Hughes, Bill Pike and
Dave Llewellyn.
Finishing third with a score of
121 was the team of Joe Hasson,
Frank Seaboldt, Bob Erbach and Jim

Men's Travel League tournament
last Friday at the Sea Trail Maples
course.
Myers edged John Ward on a

net event. Fritz McCabe was third
