Mr. Jones was born in Richmond, Va., on Dec. 14, 1914, the son of the late Myrtle Russell and Bernard Leake Jones Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. For 50 years he was a member of Fitz gerald Lodge No. 299, A.F. & A.M. of Richmond, Va. Survivors include a niece, Kay Lambert of Shallotte. She was born in Brunswick County on July 18, 1908, a daughter of the late Arie and Maude Holden Brown. FREDERICK HERMAN KART JR. Frederick Herman Kart Jr., 40, of Shady Rest Place, Shallotte, died Aug. 22 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Extended School Day Offered An Extended School Day pro gram will be offered again this year at West Brunswick High School starting next week. The program is provided by Brunswick County Schools to give students an alternative to dropping out of school. General curriculum classes that are required for a high school diplo ma are provided, along with individ ualized instruction and flexible schedules to accommodate working students, said Brenda Council. Anyone who is age 16 or older may consider this alternative way to earn high school credit. Classes resume Monday. Aug. 30 from 3:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the high school on N.C. 130 West.
