Leland Man Gets Five Years On Misdemeanor Charges A 28-year-old Lcland man was sentenced to five years in prison last week after pleading guilty in Brunswick County District Court to seven misdemeanor charges includ ing breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. Mark Timothy Phelps of Natures Mobile Home Park had been charged with one count of felonious breaking and entering, two counts of felonious larceny, two counts of misdemeanor larceny and one charge each of second degree tres passing and possession of stolen goods. Phelps was given consecutive sentences of two years, two years and one year as part of a plea bar gaining arrangement in which the state agreed to reduce the felony charges to misdemeanors and to consolidate the cases for judgment. In accepting the arrangement. Judge Ola Lewis ordered Phelps to pay $731 restitution and $3(X) for his court-appointed lawyer Mark l,ewis. Phelps will serve his sentence as a committed youthful offender with credit for the 23 days he spent in jail awaiting trial. Judge Lewis presided over district court Monday and Tuesday, while Judge Napoleon Barefoot heard cas es Wednesday. Assistant District Attorney Rick Green prosecuted cases for the state. Other defendants who appeared in court last week, with their charges, pleas and judgments include: Patrick Walter Barry, driving while license suspended/revoked not permanent, owning and operat ing vehicle with no insurance, mo torcycle/moped helmet violation, consolidated judgment, N.C. De partment of Corrections two years, suspended sentence two years, unsu pervised probation two years. $200 and costs, not operate motor vehicle for any reason until valid license, not operate motor vehicle unless properly insured. Brown, simple worthless check for $108.89 to Wilsons, Brunswick County Jail 30 days, sus pended sentence two years, super vised probation two years, restitu tion, costs, not issue any worthless checks for two years, not to be an other supervision fee added.
