McGee And Kahoe Win Lockwood Folly Shootout Fred McGee and Bill Kahoe fin ished a( plus 5!4 to win last week's Shootout at Lockwood Golf Links. Finishing second at plus 5 was the team of Dick Pearce and Joe Ready. Carl Sapienza and Kitty Heffernan were plus 4'/i to tie for third place with Steve Carter's team. The top individual on a non-win ning team was Lcn Testa, who fin ished at plus 6. Sea Trail Men Marv Peters and Bob Bach shot 57.5 to win the Sea Trail Men's Golf Association tournament last Tues day. Both players hit drives, then the "A player hit the "B" player's ball and vice versa. Teammates alternat ed shots until holing out. Jim Jones and Guy Moulton placed second with net 58. Tom Coniglio and Bernie Swanekamp took third with 59.5. Fourth place went to Roger Long and Lew Meyer with net 60. John Walker and Dick Worley were fifth with 64.5. Gene Bilz and Clarence Brown shot 66 to tic for sixth with Bill Miller and Bud Tunt. Closest-to-thc-pin winners were Long at the second hole. Gene Williams at the seventh and Bill Walters at the 16th. Brierwood Men Bill Pingo, Hal Schuler, Matt Mo naghan and Bill Miller shot 124 to win the Bricrwood Men's Golf Association two best ball event last Thursday. Dave Harper, Jim Crosby, Jack Causer and Charlie Stransky shot 129 to lie for second place with Emile Vrydaghs. Jim Bryant, Bill Dye and Ned Dye. On Aug. 23, three groups tied for first in a two best ball tournament at Brierwood. [Each finished with 17 under-par scores of 1 27. Winners were Jim Crosby, Jerry Lula, Jack Causer and Bill Dye; Jim Bryant. Rick Rickbeil, Gene Cordisco and A1 Hierman; and Jim Roach, Bob Warehcim and Bill Goldsberry. Ruth's Renegades Ruth's Renegades recognized winners on the front nine, back nine and overall in their Nassau tourna ment last Thursday. Golfers played at Bay Tree and Brierwood. Top finishers at Bay Tree's gold course included Doris Dudley with 34 on the front nine, Doris Pearce with 33.5 on the back nine and Dudley with 71 overall. Runners-up were Maxine Gray with 37.5 on the front, Ruth Brown with 35.5 on the back and Gray with 74 for all 18 holes. Dudley had the overall low gross of 111. Barbara Fieri had a chip-in at the seventh hole. Winners at Brierwood included Mary Ahearn with 3! or. the front nine and 73 overall and Alice Struck with 38 on the back nine. Finishing second were Struck with 36 on the front nine and 74 overall and Marion Corbin with 39 on the back nine. Ahearn had the low gross of 105. Brierwood Ninettes Jo Paterson, Liz Bruce, Judy Dur ham and Loretta Zderad were the top four finishers in the Brierwood Ninettes "Hate Holes" tournament last Friday. Paterson, Harriet Schuler and Kathy Stoll tied for low putts with 17 each. Tied with 18 apiece were Helen Bangs, Ruth Hierman and Carol Soucie. Pars were made by Bangs, Dur ham and Zderad at the third hole. Carolina Shores Ladies Peg Sawyer fired net 31 to lead the first flight in the Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Association crossover tournament last Thursday. Second flight winners included Gloria l^icas with net 26, Ellen Rose with 27.5 and Barb Brooks with 30. Edie Grice led the third flight with a score of 25.5. Runners-up were Cissie Fleming with 27.5 and Louise Oldman with 28.5. Cynthia Omundsen led the fourth flight with a score of 25.5. Brooks and Lucas lied for low putts with 28 each. Ducky Rice chipped in for birdie at the eighth hole. Also chipping in were Sue Grein er at the 12th hole and Fleming at the 18th. Carding birdies were Sally Manifold at the eighth and Helen Marsh at the 16th. Brierwood Homeowners Two teams tied for first place in the Brierwood Homeowners best ball of twosome event last Saturday. Pat and Ginger Sugrue shot 58 to tie Hugh and Sara McCullough. Tied for second at net 59 were Dave and Marge Harper, Ray and Margar et Wood and John and Joanna Lang. with a round of 61. Tied for fourth with scores of 62 were Rick and blsic Rickbcil, Odie and Marian Johnson, Gene and Jan Loflin and Bob and Martha Warehcim. Calabash Veterans Jerry Russ shot gross 73 and Harry Russell fired net 68 to lead the first flight in the Calabash Ve terans Golf Association tournament last Saturday at Eastport. Runncrs-up in (he top flight in cluded John Marcotte with gross 78 and Bill McDavit with net 70. In the second flight, low gross scores were posted by Don Mahncke with 85 and Ed Jackson with 87. Jim Eaton had the low net of 65, fol lowed by Bob Maloy with 68. Third flight winners were Randy Spooner with gross 90 and Bob Greenwood with net 66. Finishing second were Harry Knowles with gross 92 and Bob I^ogan with net Top finishers in the fourth flight were Alan Kletchka with gross 95 and John Pape Jr. with net 65. Art McGinn shot gross 101. and Russ Shillmgburg fired net 69 to place second. The Calabash Veterans will play Friday at Brunswick Plantation. Br/erwoocf Ladies Betty Blough and Ginger Sugrue fired a net 54 to win the Brierwood Ladies Golf Association best ball of twosome event last Tuesday. Finishing four shots back in sec ond place was the team of Jan Loflin and Margaret Wood. Peg Sawyer and Jaye Arlotta shot net 60 to tie for third place with the twosome of Sally Dye and Barbara Baxter. Betty Maerker and Irene Bryant placed fifth with a 61. Three teams tied for sixth place with rounds of 62. They were Lois Beato and June Cleasby, Ginny Campbell and Mary Ahearn, and Shirley Groff and Janice Owens. Loflin chipped in for birdie at the first hole and also birdied the fifth. Blough had the only other birdie of the day at the third hole. Carding chip-ins were Ann Causer at the first hole. Louise blizzard at the sccond, Joanna Lang at the fourth. Bryant at the eighth,. Groff at the 10th, Owens at the 16th and Jane Flieg at the 18th. Loflin had low putts for the day with 27. Runners-up were Ginny ^oiupucll and Gruff with 29 each. Joanne Lawall, Sawyer, Esther Smith, Lois Beato and Causer had 30 putts apiece. Carolina Shores Men John Crane shot net 63 to lead the first flight in the Carolina Shores Men s Golf Association tournament last Saturday. Runners-up in the top flight in cluded Les Meader and Ken Earl with rounds of 67. The round was the first of three in the President's Cup tournament. Second flight winners were Rod Manifold with net 66, George Bowen with 67 and Murray Palmer with 68. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Hank Clark at the third hole, Earl at the eighth, George Balbach at the 12th and Bob Russo at the 16th. Sea Trail Ladies The Sea Trail Ladies Golf Asso ciation held a nine-hole captain's choice last Wednesday on the Jones course. Finishing first on the front nine was the team of Carolyn Graves, Jill Wilson, Elaine Lawrenson and Marie Munn with a 38. Nancy Williams, Shirley Helmke. Marge Stokes and Marge Gallop placed second with a round of 40. On the back nine, first place went to the foursome of Joanne Van Dusen, Pat Swanekamp, Sylvia Has son and Betty Dawley with a 36. Finishing second with a 38 was the team of Ann Holman, Nin Consalvi, Rosemary Walker and Patti Matheny. On Aug. 18, the Sea Trail Ladies competed for low putts and closest to-the-pin honors on the Byrd course. * Frances Williams and Kitty Smoker were closest to the pin at the seventh and 16th holes respectively. Sylvia Hasson had low putts with 30, followed by Martha Murphy with 31 and Joan Llewellyn with 33. Nancy Mehne had 34 putts, and Jackie Dent and Betty Street fin ished with 35 each. Reporting birdies were Martha Murphy at the second hole, Kitty Smoker at the third, Jackie Dent at the 12th and Joan Llewellyn at the 18th. Brunswick Ladybirds Kay Brannon of Oak Island fired gross 91 to lead the championship flight in the Brunswick Ladybirds tournament held Aug. 3 at Carolina Shores Golf & Country Club. Sally Manifold of Carolina Shores had the second low gross of 92. Low net winners in the top flight were Helen Morris of Carolina Shores with 75 and Frances Will iams of Sea Trail with 77. Mary Schaack of Brierwood had low putts with 30. In the first flight, low gross scores were posted by Ginnie Derrickson of Carolina Shores with 95 and Kitty Smoker of Sea Trail with 100. Dolly Mott of Carolina Shores had the low net with 75. Tied for second with rounds of 77 were Doreen Spearin, Joan O'Neill and Elsie Flack, all of Carolina Shores. Bobbie Davis of Fox Squirrel had low putts with 30. Second flight winners included Shirley Vazquez with gross 103 and Lois Howard and Ruby Vanderburg with scores of 104. All three are from Carolina Shores. Edith Grice, also of Carolina Shores, had the low net of 75, fol lowed by Shirley Groff of Brier wood with 81.
