Reaves/Brooks Reunion Held
Members of the Reaves/Brooks
clan came from seven states for a re
union Aug. 21 at West Brunswick
High School.
For many of those attending it
was their first family reunion, said
Coordinator Elizabeth Jcnrette.
Benjamin F. Reaves, Ph.D., presi
dent of Oakwood College in Hunts
ville. Ala., was the featured speaker.
He was introduced by the Rev. Hu
bert Reaves.
Other program participants in
cluded the Reaves/Brooks Choir;
prayer by the Rev. James Smith;
greetings by Barbara Caison; a re
sponse by Bertha Reaves Lewis;
scripture by Hezekiah Reaves Jr.; a
memorial tribute by George Reaves;
recognitions by Lillian White; a solo
by Milton Frink. Tressa Reaves con
ducted the scholarship raffle.
Musettie Cause received a prize
as the oldest family member present.
Out-of-town guests also included
Robert M. Reaves, son of the late
Rev. Ernest Reaves, chief clerk.
Surrogate's Court, New York, N.Y.,
the first African-American to hold
that position.
The group enjoyed a dinner of
seafood, chicken and ham prepared
by Arvella Marlow and Dorothy
Frink.

Rev. Hubert Reaves delivered the
morning message.
Jefferson Smith assisted Jenrette
in coordinating the reunion.

Mr. and Mrs. James H. Lance of Shallotte and Mr. and Mrs. Ty
rone Livingston of Wampee, S.C., have announced the forthcom
ing marriage of their son, Ronald Dwayne Lance , to Regina
Burns, daughter of Louis D. Burns of Plymouth. The groom-elect
is a graduate of West Brunswick High School. The ceremony will
take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Mt. Gilead Baptist
Church in Durham.

Church in Rockingham was the set
ting for the 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug.
21, wedding of Torri Joyce Smith
and John Lynn Galloway, both of
Supply.
The bride's grandfather, the Rev.
Frank McQuage, conducted the dou
ble ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. William Currie of Supply
and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Smith of
Rockingham. She is a 1993 graduate
of West Brunswick High School in
Shallotte and is attending Brunswick
Community College, where she is
studying accounting.
The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ernie Galloway of Supply. A
1988 graduate of West Brunswick
High School, he is self-employed as
a commercial fisherman.
Wedding music was provided by
organist Rachel Lampley of Rock
ingham and soloists Ronnie Mc
Quagc, uncle of the bride, and
Cheryl Baxley, both of Hamlet.
The bride was given in marriage
by Gary Smith and Bill Currie.
She wore a white satin gown with
high wedding band collar, English
net yoke and fitted pouffed sleeves.
The fitted bodice featured re-embro
idered medallions with seed pearls
and irridescents. A bow trailed into
the scmi-cathedral train of the shir
red satin skirt. Her fingertip veil
with rolled pouf was attached to a
white, brimmed hat covered with
lace medallions accented with pearls
and pearled appliques. She carried a
bouquet of white roses and mixed
greenery.
Holly Smith of Supply, sister of
the bride, was maid of honor. Her
tea-length gown of pcach satin fea
tured a sweetheart neckline and
pouffed sleeves accented with bows.
Bridesmaids were Laura Gal
loway, sister of the groom; Tonya
Carlisle, Misty Skipper and Tracey
Trapp, all of Supply; Sissy Griggs of
Rockingham, and Crystal McQuage
of Hamlet, cousin of the bride.
Jennifer Smith of Rockingham,
sister of the bride, was flower girl.
Their gowns were identical to that
of the honor attendant.
The bride's cousins, Shandi Ar
nette and Traci Clark of Rocking
ham, were honorary bridesmaids.
The groom chose his father as
best man.
Groomsmen were Keith Gallo
way, brother of the groom, John Var
num and Jeffrey Galloway, cousins
of the groom, Eddie Trapp and De
shawn Clemmons, all of Supply, and
B.J. West of Rockingham, cousin of
the bride.
A reception was held afterward in
the church fellowship hall.
Following a wedding trip to
Grandfather Mountain, the newly
weds are making their home in Var
namtown.
