Deaths And Funerals FRANCES ROLLINS KERR Frances Rollins Ken, 74, of Sunset Beach, died Aug. 25 in The Brunswick Hospital at Supply after an extended illness. The funeral was Aug. 28 at the graveside in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Hugh O'Shields offi ciated. She was a native of Wake County and lived in Durham most of her life until moving to Sunset Beach. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, J.H. DONNIE BELL COX MILLER The funeral for Donnie Bell Cox Miller was Saturday, Sept. 4, at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. William Ganus officiating. HELEN M. CHRISTMAN Helen M. Christman, 80, formerly of Southport, died Aug. 31 in Bruns wlck Cove Nursing Home, Leland. A funeral Mass was held Sept 4 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Southport, of which she was a mem ber. The Rev. Joseph Vetter officiat ed. Christman was born on Sept. 25 1912, in North River. N.Y., a daugh ter of the late Henry and Susie Sargent Villcneuve. She moved here in 1971 from Albany, N.Y. She was a former member of the Altar Rosary Society. Survivors include two sons, Ed ward J. Christman of Leland and Robert C. Christman of Southport two brothers, John Villeneuve and Leo Villeneuve, both of New York; two sisters, Pauline Lynn and Doris Israel, both of New York; five grandchildren; and four grcat-erand children. Mrs. Hollis was bom in Colum bus County on July 2, 1906, the daughter of the late John and Cora Medlin Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Earl Hollis; and two sons, Francis M. Mrs. Foust was a native of Ran dolph County and a homemaker. GRADY LEE FREEMAN Grady Lee Freeman, 74, of Sunset Harbor community, Bolivia, died Sept. 2 at his home. Mr. Freeman was born in Rand olph County on Dec. 7, 1918, and was the son of the late John Roscoe and Ida Bean Freeman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and attended Sunset Harbor Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Penny Freeman of Palm Bay, Fla., and Dixielee Freeman of Mel bourne, Fla.; a brother, Calvin Free man of Melbourne, Fla.; and a sister. Marguerite Simmons of High Point. TONY C. LOWERY Tony Craven Lowery, 31, of Route 3, Whiteville, died Sept. 2 as the result of a logging accident near Chadbourn. The funeral was Sept. 5 at Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City, with the Rev. James McCombs officiat ing. Burial was in the Inman Cem etery of Freeland. He was a native of Columbus County, the son of Laura Inman Lowery of Ash and the late James Craven Lowery. Memory St., Whiteville Service with Dependability, Distinction and Dignity CHURCH ACTIVITIES Calabash Presbyterian Holds Open House Calabash Presbyterian Church on Georgetown Road is inviting friends and neighbors to visit the new edu cation and activity wing during open house Sunday, Sept. 12, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Members of the church will show guests around and share "the short, but exciting" history of their church, a news release indicated. The education and activity wing was completed in July. It includes a large meeting room, a combination choir and classroom, a nursery and kindergarten room, a children's room, bath and storerooms. The church was organized in February 1990 with 51 members. The first unit of its worship facility was completed in November 1991 and included a multi-purpose fel lowship and worship room. "The open house will provide the opportunity for members of neigh boring churches and friends in the community to see what Presby terians are doing, and to share with them the excitement and pride of a new building," the news release con cluded. They attend New Covenant Church on Holden Beach Road, where she sings with the Praise and Worship Team. She also holds the position of Praise and Worship leader with the Shallotte Chapter of Women's Aglow. Chrismon Workshop Set Members of Village Point United Methodist Church will hold a Chrismon workshop Saturday, Sept. Women's Aglow Fellow ship. A former guitarist with the Oak Ridge Boys, Smith was nominated for a Dove Award for Instru-mental ist of the Year by the Gospel Music Association. He is a regular on the Grand Olc Opry in Nashville and is ordained with Faith Christian Fell owship in Tulsa, Okla. He joined the International Convention of Faith Ministries in 1983. For 23 years he has played and sung for numerous Christian groups and traveled to 27 countries, using his "unique ability to communicate the love and joy of the Lord through his music."
