Helen Morrison Wins Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Club Championship Helen Morrison posted a three day total of 280 to win the champi onship flight in the Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Association Club Championship held Sept. 7-9. Sally Manifold finished second in the top flight with a score of 282. A Flight winners wete Sue Greiner with 306 and Flo Warren with 313. In the B Flight, Jean Palmer led the way with a 314. She was fol lowed by Jean Sperry with 316. Dottie Russo won the C Flight with a 324. Louise Oldman was sec ond with 346. Helen Marsh led the D Flight with a 347 total. Finishing second was May Robertson with 356. Medalists for the three days were Manifold with 93, Morrison with 93 and Jean Krisher with 93. Calabash Veterans Two teams tied for first place in the Calabash Veterans Golf Asso ciation three best nets of foursome event last Friday at Brierwood. John Marcotte, Gerry Rhoades and Bob Davis shot 191 to tie the foursome of Wash Dayton, Ed Jackson, Bob Greenwood and Jerry Falvey. Bob Christian, Bob Maloy, Bob Phillips and Alan Kletchka shot 198 to tie for second with Walt Benes, Don Mahncke, Randy Spooner and Bill Seip. The Calabash Veterans are sched uled to play this Friday at Eagles Nest. Show time is 7 a.m. On Sept. 5, the Calabash Veterans hosted the second match against the Murrells Inlet Veterans at River Hills. The Calabash group won 14 of 18 match-play better ball matches to even the series with Murrells Inlet at 1-1. Winning teams for Calabash were John Marcotte and Dick Smith, Jerry Russ and Wash Dayton, Herm Thompson and L.C. Bollinger, Bill McDavit and Walt Benes, Fred Hall and Bob Stilwell. Teams counted one best hall on par 3 holes, two best balls on par 4 holes and three balls par 5 holes. Finishing second with 142 was the foursome of Wayne Johnson, Chris Torgersen, Joe Gainer and Jim Ancarn. On a match of cards, third place went to the team of Paul Neal, Frank Koss Ed Frey and Bob Johnson (blind draw) with 146. On Sept. 3, the team of Wayne Johnson, Don Redding, Ed Jacobs and Jerry Rubin shot 130 to lead the first flight in the men's travel league tournament at Lion's Paw. Finishing second in the two best balls of foursome event was the team of Bill Miller, Paul Neal, Leo Jarmusz and Tony Basile, also with 130. Finishing second in the "Lone Seniors To Play Olde Fort Club The Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a golf tournament for local senior citizens Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Olde Fort Golf Club in Winnabow. Players are welcome to make up their own foursomes or enter indi vidually. The $20 entry fee covers green and carts fees, lunch and prizes for the top finishers in each age group. Martha Lovaty, Virginia Reilly and Trudie Larson shot 82 to win the Nifty Niners "Orange Ball" tournament last Thursday at Ocean Isle Beach Golf Course.
