Hospice Programs To Explore
Sudden Loss, Explaining Death
Lower Cape Fear Hospice on Oct.
14 will sponsor two programs on
dealing with death and dying, pre
sented by a pioneer in the field of
crisis intervention.
Dr. Earl Grollman. an internation
ally recognized lecturer and author
of more than 20 hooks on loss issues,
is renowned for his work in dealing
with grief, loss and bereavement.
Both programs will take place at
Thalian Hall in Wilmington.

County, the daughter of the late J.W.

Elmer Richard McDonald. 66, of
Calabash died Sept. 14 in The
Brunswick Hospital at Supply.
Born July 10, 1927, in Hartford.
Conn., he was a son of the late Alex
ander and Gladys Pierce McDonald.
He was retired from United
Technology as a quality control offi
cer. He was an employee of Pearl
Golf Links, and a veteran of the U.S.
Coast Guard and the U.S. Merchant
Marines.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah
McDonald of Calabash; a son, Ric
hard McDonald of Summers, Conn.;
a brother, Ronald McDonald of
Rockville, Conn.; and two grand
children.

87, of Wilmington died Sept. 15 in
New Hanover Regional Medical
Center.

Born in Zebulon on Oct. 24.
1906. the daughter of the late Sam
uel J. and Bettie Stallings Privette.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Irving T. Clemmons, and a
son, Louis P. Clemmons.
She was a member of the Zebulon
Chapter of the DAR.
Survivors include four sons,
James E. Clemmons, Stephen B.
(Jack) Clemmons and Robert L.
C lemmons. all of Wilmington, and
Irving T. Clemmons Jr. of Mulberry.

and Billy Privette, both of Supply,
and Frank Privette of Southport; 10

Myrtle K. Cox, 89, of Ocean Isle
Beach died Sept. 14 at her home.

Born Nov. 30, 1903,, in Balsam
Grove, she was a daughter of the
late Ezra and Lula LaMance
Kitchen. She was a homemaker and
retired school teacher.

Tabor City and Felix Cox of Aransas

1943, in Talladega, Ala. He worked
for 25 years in the nuclear power in
dustry, including the U.S. Naval
Submarine Forces and Carolina
Power & Light Co.'s Brunswick
Plant in Southport. Most recently he
was site manager for Ebasco Ser
vices Inc. at the Laguna Verde Nu
clear Power Station near Vera Cruz,
Mex.
He was a member of St. Peter's
Lutheran Church, where he worked
with young people, and was the first
president of the Caswell Dunes
Homeowners' Association. For the
past two years he had studied and
taught principles of Attitudinal
Healing to fellow individuals facing
catastrophic illness.
Survivors include his wife, Linda
Parsons Shaddix of Caswell Beach;
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L.
Shaddix Sr. of Talladega, Ala.; two
daughters, Stacey Renee Shaddix of
Raleigh and Holley Flora of Caswell
Beach; two brothers, Roy D. Shad
dix of Birmingham, Ala., and Paul
W. Shaddix of Jacksonville, Fla.;
and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Mic

RICHARD CLYDE HARMAN
Richard Clyde Harman, 57, of
Southport died Sept. 18 in Conway,
SC.
The funeral was Wednesday. Sept.
22, at 3 p.m. at Peacock-Newnam
Funeral Chapel, with Chaplain Ron
ald Thomas officiating. Burial was
in Cape Fear Memorial Park with
full military honors.
Mr. Harman was born June 1,
1936, in Enid, Okla., a son of the
late Delbert and Mattie Phillips
Harmon. Me moved here from Ft.
Bragg 13 years ago. He was owner
and operator of Harman Marine, a
member of Oak Island Moose Lodge
No. 2059 and was a licensed
NASCAR driver.
Retired from the U.S. Army as a
command sergeant major after 27
years of service, he was a member
of the Golden Knights Alumni
Association and a captain in the U.S.
Army Reserves. He received numer
ous military commendations and
medals while serving tow tours each
in Germany and Vietnam and a tour
in Korea and serving as a member of
the U.S. Parachute Team, a Golden
Knight and coach of the U.S.
Parachute Team and West Point
Parachute Team.
Survivors include his wife. Mary
Jones Harman of the home; four
sons, John Delbert Harman of Fort
Meade, Md.. Michael James Har
man of Wilmington, Ricky Harman
