MR. AND MRS. JOE MITCHELL SMITH ..Frances Amy Stephens Stephens-Smith Vows Spoken Frances Amy Stephens and Joe Mitchell Smith were united in mar riage July 10 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Loris, S.C. The Rev. Jim Ponder officiated the double-ring ceremony. Mrs. Jan Floyd served as pianist and soloist. The wedding was directed by Mrs. Wendall Blanton. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Stephens of Loris. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland K. Richberg of Shallotte and the late Joe Mitchell Smith Sr. He is the grandson of Mrs. Ora W. Hewett of Shallotte and the late William W. Hewett and Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey J. Smith of Ash. Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a long-sleeved off-the-shoul der satin gown embellished with satin roses. The low bodice featured an insert of seed pearls and sequins. The cathedral train was accented with a satin bow and pearls. She car ried a bouquet of white roses and ivy. Katrina Lane of Loris served as maid of honor. Susan Stephens of Little River was her niece's matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Melo ney Dominick of Summerville, S.C., cousin of the bride; and Tara Dun can and Teri Blanton of Loris. They wore tea-length lavendar satin dress es. Jessica Stephens, the bride's cou sin. served as flower girl. Ring bear er was Brandon Stephens, cousin of the bride. Stephen Lyles of Shallotte, cousin of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Paul Bennick and Tommy Rogers of Shallotte; Todd Blanton of Loris; and Chris Step hens, brother of the bride, of Loris. A reception was held after the ceremony in the church fellowship hall. The bride is a graduate of Loris High School and will attend Horry Georgetown Technical College. The bridegroom is a graduate of West Brunswick High School and Bruns wick Community College. He is em ployed by Smith's Heating and Air at Hickman's Crossroads. The couple will make their home in Little River. Area Births Are Announced Simmons Cleveland and Sybil Mitchell Simmons of Supply have announced the birth of their third child, Bryan Sterlang Mitchell Simmons. He arrived at 12:01 a.m. Sept. 14 at The Brunswick Hospital. He weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces and was 19 inches long. He joins brothers Troy and Justin Simmons. Maternal grandparents are Way mond and Elnora Mitchell of Sup ply. Paternal grandparents are Lou ise Simmons of Supply and the late Buster Simmons. Shaw Kelli Ellison and Bill Shaw of Southport are the parents of a son, Brennan James Shaw, born Sept. 16 at 10:46 a.m. at The Brunswick Hospital. He weighed 6 pounds and was 19 inches long. He has a brother, Kevin Ellison. Grandparents are Mervin Darnell and Cecelia Darnell of Long Beach. Lovett Thomas L. and Brenda M. Lovett are the parents of a son, Michael Anthony Lovett. Bom at 8:43 a.m. Sept. 16 at The Brunswick Hospital, Michael weighed 7 pounds and was 20.5 inches long. He joins two sisters, Rosalinda and Kristina Lovett. Grandparents are Ronie and Margie Mooney of Supply. Sarah G. Mooney of Bolivia is his great grandmother. Whiddon Tracy Whiddon of Supply has an nounced the birth of a son, William Jagger Whiddon. He weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 20 inches long on arrival at The Brunswick Hospital at 5:13 p.m. Sept. 16. Jane Whiddon is his maternal grandmother. His maternal great grandparents are Murreil and Irene Tharpe. Smith , McGuire Wedding Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Smith of Ash have announced the forthcom ing marriage of their daughter, Terra S. Smith, to Brian P. McGuire, son of Susan G. Allen of Shallotte and Danny M. McGuire of Miami, Fla. Sundays, 1-5^ CLUB BRIEFS Sea-Notes Schedule Year's Worth Of Music The Sea-Notes Choral Society of Southport will participate in the "Festival of Music and Art" at Pawleys island. S.C. this weekend to begin their 1993-94 season. Preparation for the Christmas pro gram will begin the following Mon day at the Southport United Meth odist Church at 7 p.m. Interested singers are welcome to attend with no audition required for member ship. Plans for the year include the Dec. 5 Christmas program featuring "Ceremony of Carols" by Benjamin Britten; Mozart's "Coronation Mass"; and sing-along carols. The concert will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport. The spring concert April 8-9 will have music of the 1940's and early '50s as its theme. The traditional July 4 presentation will be followed by a concert production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "Trial by Jury" next Sept. 23-24. In addition to new voices, the Intermediate Sign Language Class Offered Brunswick Community College will offer an intermediate class in American Sign Language to be taught by board-certified instructor Jean Kaczynski. The class will meet on Thursday evenings from 6:30 until 9 on the main campus of BCC in Supply. The self-supporting class is a con tinuation of the beginners' sign class taught during the summer quarter. Cost of the eight-week session will be $50 per person based on a mini mum of 12 students. Romance Writers North Carolina Bi The Romance Writers of Amer ica, Lower Cape Fear Chapter, will sponsor its second annual one-day writers' workshop Oct. 16 at the N.C. Doors will open for registration at 7:30 a.m. The day's activities will begin at 8:45 and continue until 6:30 p.m. Scheduled speakers include: ?Hugh Zachary of Yaupon Beach, mainstream author of 136 published books including the White Indian Series, Children of the Lions, Robber Barons and Omnificence, a science fiction novel to be published in January. ?Lisa Cantrell, horror/mystery writ er of six published books including The Haunted House, The Ridge, The Manse, The Adjuster and Boneman. Pickett Photography Exhibit At SCC Through October 29 The photographs of Brunswick County native David Pickett will be exhibited in the Upstairs Gallery at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville through Oct. 29. "God's Country" is a collection of black-and-white and color pho tographs which Pickett says he feels "capture the beauty and tranquility of Virginia and North Carolina." Pickett became interested in art and photography as a child and re ceived his first camera in seventh grade. A graduate of West Bruns wick High School, he went on to at tend the UNC at Asheville, where he became photo editor of the student newspaper. He taught himself to de velop and print film, and learned the artistic aspects of photography from his mentor, Asheville photographer John Davis. Pickett used a long exposure to transform a mountain stream into "Waters Flow." a large black-and white piece shot in 1984. Also fea tured in the exhibit is "Curtains Blow," an unusual view of the Bilt more House in Asheville. Pickett al so does portrait photography hut says he prefers to capture people in their natural settings. Pickett currently serves as agent for the Microenterprise Loan Pro gram at SCC. The program provides start-up or expansion loans to small businesses in Columbus. Brunswick.
