Joseph Wilford Caison, 69, of
Shallotte died Sept. 20 in The
Brunswick Hospital.
The funeral was Sept. 24 in the
Brunswick Funeral Home Chapel,
Shallotte, with burial in Mintz Ccm
e?try.
Born Nov. 23, 1923, in Bruns
wick County, he was a son of the
late Joseph Winslow and Ida Somer
sett Caison. He was retired from the
U.S. Navy with 30 years of service
and from Norfolk Towing Co. as a
tugboat steward.
Survivors include two sisters,
Nellie Powell of Shallotte and Ava
Ward of Johnston.
WILLIE CHESTER CLEMMONS
Willie Chester Clemmons, 78, of
Supply, died Sept. 22 in New Han
over Regional Medical Center,
Wilmington.
The funeral was Sept. 24 at Coble
Ward-Smith Funeral Service Chapel,
Supply, with the Rev. Drue Hardee
officiating. Burial was in Hewett
Family Cemetery.
Mr. Clemmons was born in
Brunswick County on Aug. 20,
1915, and was the son of the late
George and Victoria Hewett Clem
mons.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie
W. Clemmons of the home; a son,
Ronnie Chester Clemmons of Sup
ply; three daughters, Linda C. Hew
ett of Supply, Elizabeth "Libby"
Madison and Gloria Faye Lancaster,
both of Shallotte; a brother. Levy
Clemmons of Supply; four sisters,
Dorothy Steinbauer, Delma Clem
mons and Hilda Holden, all of Sup
ply, and Robie Todd of Shallotte; 10
grandchildren; and six great-grand
children.
NETTA MARIE CASH MORGAN
Netta Marie Cash Morgan, 79, of
Wilmington died Sept. 22 in New
Hanover Regional Medical Center.
A graveside funeral was conduct
ed Sept. 2r in Greenlawn Memorial
Park, with the Rev. Horace Jackon
and Bill Oaks officiating.
She was born in Wendell on June
4, 1914, to the late James Garland
and Ira Liles Cash. She was the wid
ow of Rhiilip Henry Morgan Sr.,
who died in 1974.
Mrs. Morgan was a member of
Sunset Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Phil
lip Henry Morgan Jr., Dennis Wes
ley Morgan and Michael Liles Mor
gan, all of Wilmington, and James
Earl Morgan of Calabash; a sister,
Rachel Cash Hawes of Calabash; a
half-brother, James G. Cash of Can
ton; nine grandchildren;, and three
great-grandchildren.
WILLIAM EVERITT BASS
William (Bill) Everitt Bass, 80, of
Wilmington died Sept. 23 at his resi
dence.
The funeral was Sept. 25 in the
Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel,
with the Rev. Robert E. Lee officiat
ing. Burial was in Oleander Mem
orial Gardens.
Mr. Bass was horn in Wilmington
June 1, 1913, the son of the late
Lewis Guilford and Florence Everitt
Bass.
He was a member of Seagate
Baptist Church and was the retired
owner and operator of Oleander Fa
brics. He was a member of Wilm
ington Lodge No. 319. Scottish Rite
Bodies and the Shrine.
Survivors include his wife, Hattie
Bass of the home; a son, Guilford
(Gil) Wilson Bass of Holden Beach;
two brothers, Lindsey F. Bass and
R.D. Bass, both of Wilmington; and
three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Sea
gate Baptist Church or to the charity
of the giver's choice.
JANET C. RUEHLE
Janet C. Ruehle, 55, of Longwood
Road NW died Friday, Sept. 24, at
her residence. She was bom in
Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 21, 1937, to
the late Maurice and Helen Caveny
aro Gale.
Survivors include her husband,
George R. Ruehle of the home, and
a brother, Allen Gale of Edison, N.J.
Memorial services were to be
conducted Wednesday, Sept. 29, in
St. Brendan's Catholic Church by
Father Francis Mahoney.
JOHN NEWMAN LANCASTER
Funeral services for John New
man Lancaster, 75, of Supply were
held Tuesday in the Coble Ward
Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev.
Truette Rogers officiating. Burial
was in the family cemetery on
Turnpike Road.
Mr. l-ancaster died Sunday. Sept.
26, in New Hanover Regional Medi
cal Center after an illness. He was
born Oct. 18, 1917, and was the son
of the late John Newman Lancaster
Sr. and Leslie Berlyn Sellers Lan
caster.
In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by two brothers,
Charles Lancaster and Snode Lan
caster; and two sisters, Alene Hew
ett and Nelda Hargrove.
He was a member of Mount
Pisgah Baptist Church and Shaliotte
Lodge 727 AF & AM and was a
32nd-degree Mason. He served in
the Navy during World War II and
was a commercial fisherman and
farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Veuna
Robinson Lancaster; two daughters,
Mary Ann Barnes of Supply and
Lou Ellen White; a brother, Lacy
Lancaster of Supply; four sisters,
Velma Robinson of Supply, Theo
docia Musselwhite of Shaliotte,
Doris Thompson of Emerald Isle
and Betty Wilson of Ellicott City,
Md.; three grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.

William Owen Gore, 62, of Route
1, Nakina, died Sept. 23 at his resi
dence.
He was born in Nakina on March
24, 1931, a son of the late Walter
Welch and Sally Faulk Gore. He
was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille
McCumbee Gore of the home; three
sons. Randy Gore of Augusta, Ga.,
and Dale Gore and Allen Gore, both
of Nakina; a daughter, Elaine G.
Callahan of Nakina; a brother, Shel
ton Gore of Nakina; three sisters,

United Methodist Church, Nakina,

Wellness Program To Start Oct. 4
Students will help motivate fel
low students make healthy lifestyle
choices when the Brunswick County
Schools' wellness program begins
next month.
Using teachers, teen-age peer
counselors, guest speakers and a va
riety of books, videos and fitness
equipment, the program provides
education and counseling to adoles
cents in grades six through 12, said
Wellness Coordinator Rita Hatcher.
The program motivates student to
accept responsibility for healthy liv
ing and builds individual self confi
dence by learning more about one
self and others. It also helps students
come to understand how to make
decisions and healthy choices, and
helps them plan for the future by
learning to set goals.
To help the students achieve their
goals, lessons are offered in nutri
tion, fitness, emotional health, con
flict mediation, decision making, al
cohol and other drug prevention,
employment enhancement skills and
goal setting.
The program is offered in all
county middle schools. In the three
high schools it is offered through the
various Job Training Partnership Act
classes.
Wellness supervisors completed
training for the program Sept. 15 at
Brunswick Community College in a
session led by Miriam McLaughlin
of the N.C. Department of Public
Instruction. She stressed peer listen
ing skills, communication, maintain
ing confidentiality and peer media
tion.
