WILLIE CHESTER CLEMMONS Willie Chester Clemmons, 78, of Supply, died Sept. 22 in New Han over Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. Wellness Program To Start Oct. 4 Students will help motivate fel low students make healthy lifestyle choices when the Brunswick County Schools' wellness program begins next month. Using teachers, teen-age peer counselors, guest speakers and a va riety of books, videos and fitness equipment, the program provides education and counseling to adoles cents in grades six through 12, said Wellness Coordinator Rita Hatcher. The program motivates student to accept responsibility for healthy liv ing and builds individual self confi dence by learning more about one self and others. It also helps students come to understand how to make decisions and healthy choices, and helps them plan for the future by learning to set goals. To help the students achieve their goals, lessons are offered in nutri tion, fitness, emotional health, con flict mediation, decision making, al cohol and other drug prevention, employment enhancement skills and goal setting. The program is offered in all county middle schools. In the three high schools it is offered through the various Job Training Partnership Act classes. Wellness supervisors completed training for the program Sept. 15 at Brunswick Community College in a session led by Miriam McLaughlin of the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.
