The Lady Patriots posted a 15-8. 15-11. 15-6. victory last Thursday at West Brunswick in a Waccamaw 2A/3A Conference match. It came one day after Pender's 15-7, 15-4, 16-14, home win over the Lady Trojans. "I think they're still undefeated in the conference." West Brunswick Coach Brenda Council said. "They have a pretty solid team. They also work well together which is the most important thing." Christy Sawyer led Pender in the two matches with a total of 23 points. Amanda Lee had 13 points and Jennifer Jackson added 10 for the Lady Patriots in last Thursday's match. Michelle Long led West Bruns wick in both matches with 13 points at home and X on the road. Nicole Morris and Madonna Cause had a total of 8 points each in the two matches. In other Waccamaw Conference volleyball action last week. South Columbus defeated host West Brunswick 14-16, 15-6, 15-3, 14-16. 15-3, last Tuesday to sweep the sea son series. Chasity Worley led the Lady Stallions with 38 service points. Long had 9 to lead West Brunswick. On Sept. 16, West Brunswick de feated South Brunswick 3-15. 15-5, 15-7, 5 15. 17-15. in Boiling Spring Likes. Rebecca Hughes led West with 16 points, and Misty l.eclerc had 22 for the Lady Cougars. In recent non-conference action. West Brunswick defeated visiting Bladenboro 15-4, 15-3. 15-11, on Sept. 14. Long had 17 points and Norris had 1 1 for the Lady Trojans. West Brunswick (4-4 conference, 7-7 overall) had three matches sche duled this week, starting with a nome match Tuesday against confer ence foe Whiteville. HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER W est Brunswick Wins Fourth Straight BY DOUG RIJTTER West Brunswick's soccer team will carry a four-game winning streak into its home match against the North Brunswick Scorpions Thursday at Shallotte Middle School. The Trojans notched their fourth consecutive victory last Thursday with a 3-0 decision at South Bruns wick. West Brunswick also defeated Wilmington Christian Academy 2-1 last week. "We're playing good in the sec ond half, hut in just about every game we're not starting off the way I'd like to see," West Brunswick Coach Teak Hemphill said last week. Against South Brunswick, the Trojans took a 1-0 lead into halftime behind Cameron Kinlaw's third goal of the season. Kinlaw blasted a free kick into the upper right corner of the goal from just outside the 18 yard box. "We came out a little si jggish," Coach Hemphill said. "We had a lot of opportunities early but out shots were off the mark. We struggled through the game and ended up win ning." In the second half. The 3-0 win at Smithville Town ship Park was the second shutout of the year for the Trojans, who defeat ed Flora McDonald Academy 6-0 in their season opener. In non-conference action last Tuesday. West Brunswick defeated visiting Wilmington Christian 2-1. The score was 1-1 at halftime as Payne scored his ninth goal of the year in the opening period. With two minutes remaining in the match. Cooper headed a crossing pass from Jay Gray into the net for the winning goal. "It was a tight ball game all the way." Hemphill said. After this week's match with North Brunswick, West Brunswick doesn't return to action until Oct. 7 when Flora McDonald visits Shallotte. Mariners Sink Scorps North Brunswick's Steve Sloan scored three goals, hut it wasn't enough as the Scorpions suffered a 5-3 loss to East Carteret Monday at Northwest Township Park. Sloan leads North with six goals on the season. In another Coastal Plains 1A Con ference match last Wednesday, Ca sey McBride scored North Bruns wick's only goal in a 5-1 home loss to Richlands. North Brunswick was scheduled to host Lejeune Wednesday before traveling to West Brunswick Thurs day. South Brunswick was scheduled to play at Wilmington Christian Academy Tuesday. The Cougars will visit North Brunswick Oct. 7. Jamal Stanley rushed 17 times for 212 yards and scored three touch downs for the Trojans in a losing cause. Stanley had a 90-yard kickoff return for one TD. He also scored on a 25-yard run and 1-yard run. In other junior varsity football ac tion last week. North Brunswick im proved its record to 2-0-1 with a 26 8 victory over visiting Fairmont. Michael Edge rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns, scoring on runs of 32, 16 and 6 yards. The Scorpions are scheduled to play at Easl Bladen Thursday night.
