Lions Ready To Provide Help
To Needy Residents Of County
Shallotte Lions Club has funds
available to continue helping needy
residents of southern Brunswick
County obtain eye exams, glasses,
hearing tests and hearing aids.
In the past year the club has pro
vided 16 pairs of glasses, three hear
ing aids and miscellaneous travel
expenses to the Duke Eye Center.
Money to pay for these services
comes from club fund-raising pro
jects.

NARFE To Meet
The Brunswick County Chapter
of the National Association of Re
tired Federal Employees (NARFE)
will hold its monthly meeting at the
Sandfiddler Restaurant, Southport,
on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at noon.
Guest speaker will be Pete Barn
ette, executive director of the Volun
teer and Information Center.
All members and prospective
members are welcome. NARFE
meetings are open to the public;
membership is available to all feder
al retirees and federal employees

Beachcombers To Meet
The Beachcombers Extension
Homemakers Club will meet Wed
nesday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. in the
Bonaparte's Retreat clubhouse in
Calabash.
New members are welcome.
This month's program will in
clude a presentation on the work of
the 4-H Club, followed by a demon
stration by Lucile Kirby on making
notepaper. Members should bring
their dried flowers.
A wreath workshop will be led by
Jean Mearns using a wire base to be
decorated with plastic flowers, pine
cones, sweet gum balls and other
items.

Ceremony Set Saturday

bach Way To Reading.
The new tutors are ready to help
adults, teen-agers and school-age
children improve their reading
skills, said VISTA volunteer Julie
