DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Performs skilled inspection work in securing compli
ance with established codes governing the building, mechanical and plumbing
trades. Checks plans and specifications for proposed construction and installation
to assure the codes and ordinances have been followed, but is required to exercise
independent judgement in applying these standards to a variety of work situations.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Building Inspector.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school,
supplemented by special training in building inspection, and some experience in
residential and/or commercial electrical building, mechanical or plumbing construc
tion work: or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides
the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must become a permanent legal resident of Brunswick
County within six months from date of employment.
Possession of a certificate from the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification
Board. Standard certification at Level II in all 3 areas (building, mechanical, plumb
ing) with Probationary Level III in all 3 areas (building, mechanical, plumbing).
