Henry Burch and Mike Hobbs had plus 6 to tie for second place with the team of Martha Collins and Danny Manson. The top individual player on a non-winning team was Lewis Foster with plus 2'A. Brierwood Men Bill Poison, Paul Dunfee, Bill Miller and Frank Thompson shot 120 to win the Brierwood Men's Golf Association two best ball tour nament Saturday. Finishing one shot back in second place was the team of Gene Loflin, Nick Lacerenza and Paul Keeley. They used a blind draw for their fourth score. Neal McCall, Joe Reiter, Tony Maglione and Bill Goldsberry shot 122 to tie for third with the team of Bob Tompkins, Don Redding, Rick Rickbiel and Jerry Smith. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Jim Roach at the third hole, Joe Reiter at the ninth. Bill Waples at the 14th and Ray Under at the 17th. Last Thursday, the Brierwood men competed in a best ball event. Teams counted fourAialls on the first six holes, three balls on the next six and two balls on the last six. First place went to the foursome of Dave Harper, Bill Pingo and Paul Keeley with a 13-under-par 205. They used a blind draw for their fourth score. Placing second with 208 was the team of Don Redding, John Two mey, Dick Anzelone and Bill Golds berry. On Oct. 11, the team of Jim Cros by, Charlie Stransky and Hal Schuler shot 135 to win another best ball event at Brierwood. The team of Dave Harper, Howard Bayne, Dick Anzelone and Jerry Smith shot' 137 to tie for second with Neal McCall, Jim Roach and Jerry Wolff. Carolina Shores Ladies The Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Association held a Nassau tourna ment last Thursday at Eagles Nest. Winners were named for the front nine, back nine and overall in four flights. In the first flight, Lynn Jerr was the overall winner with a round of 70. Ginny Dorshimer had the low of 34 on the front nine and Helen Morrison shot 35.5 on the back nine. Gladys Bowen was the overall winner in the second flight with a on the front side and Dot Russo had 34.5 on the hack nine. Third flight winners were Jenny Briggs with 33.5 on the front, Helen Brady with 37 on the back and Jean Sperry with 69 overall. Leading the fourth flight were Helen Marsh with a front nine of 33. Use Batcman with a back nine of 38 and Ducky Rice with an overall score of 74. Eileen Deehan had low putts for the tournament with 26. Making birdies were Sally Manifold and Alice Abhene at the second hole. Bowen chipped in at the sixth hole and Ginnie Derrickson had a chip-in at 17. Brierwood Scramble Four teams shot 33 and tied for first place in the nine-hole mixed scramble last Thursday at Brier wood. They were Jim Crosby, Andy Micali, Ginny Campbell. June Cleas by; Burley Athan, Bob Wareheim, Barbara Baxter. Irene Bryant; Jim Bryant, Chuck Dugan, Ruth Crosby, Alene Sterner; John Twomey, Louise Blizzard, Martha Wareheim, Hthel Brown. Sea Trail Men Golfers competed for low gross and most points in the Sea Trail Men's Golf Association tournament last Tuesday on the Jones course. In the first flight. Marv Peters had the low gross of 78 and Jim Jones was second with 83. Roger Long fin ished with 36 points and John Pointer was second with 35. Second flight winners included Stan Risch with gross 83 and Joe Hasson with 42 points. Runners-up were Bob Manfred with gross 88 and Frank Seaboldt and Ray Dillon with 37 points each. Top finishers in the third flight were Bud Tunt with gross 92 and John Gregory and Bob Moore with rounds of 98. Bill Kushner had 38 points, followed by Bob Erbach with 36. Bollinger had net 68 to lead the first llight in the Calabash Veterans Golf Association tournament last Friday at Ocean Isle Beach Golf Course. Runners-up in the top flight were Bob Christian with gross 82 and Al Branham with net 69. In the second flight, Clayton Dyson had the low gross of 83 and Dave Earle fired the low net of 68. Finishing second were Joe Ready with gross 89 and Dick Owens with net 72. Top finishers in the third flight in cluded Don Kelly with gross 9(1 and Bob Logan with net 66. Bob Erbach had gross 94 and Alan Kletchka shot net 68 to place second. Fourth flight winners were Bill Flynn with gross 99 and Harold Daigneau with net 69. Runners-up were Ed White with gross 101 and J.J. Quigley with net 71. The Calabash Veterans will play this Friday at Olde Fort Golf Club. The car pool will leave Calabash VFW at 7 a.m. Show time is 8 a.m. Brick Landing Women Ursula Styczynski aced the 17th hole to highlight the Brick Landing Women's Golf Association tourna ment last Thursday. Witnessing the shot were playing partners Alice Grossman, Pauli Waddle and Joan Behrle. Styczynski used an 8-iron at the l(X)-yard hole. Top finishers in the first flight last week were Alice Grossman with low gross and June Beck with low net. Second flight winners were Martha Cullen in the low gross divi sion and Ruth Gardner in low net category. In the third flight, Rosemary Dob son had the low gross and Terry Ehlers fired the low net. In the second flight, Pat Wolff, Margaret Wood and Esther Smith tied for low gross with scores of 97. Irene Bryant had the low net with 70. Smith had low putts with 28. Karate Kid Places Chad McCumbee, a student of Trevor \ School of Korean Karate, finished well in two recent competitions. In the Karate State Nat ionals Sept. 18 at Appalachian State University Varsity Gym in Boone, he placed in three divisions, finishing first in weapons, sec ond in kata and third in musical kata. On Oct. 9 in Mullins, S.C., at the 3rd annual Karate World Open Tournament he placed first in all three divisions, bringing his total number of trophies to 29. West Volleyball Team Drops South Brunswick West Brunswick's volleyball team finished the season last week with a win over county rival South Bruns wick anil a loss at New Hanover. The Lady Trojans defeated South Brunswick 15-13. 15-7, 15-10. last Tuesday in their final home match. Rebecca Hughes had 13 service points and Felicia Morgan added eight to lead West. Host New Hanover beat West Brunswick 15-8. 15-8. 14-16. 15-10. in last Thursday's season finale. Hughes had 1 1 points and Madonna Gause had nine to pace the Trojans. After winning two consecutive conference championships, the Lady Trojans finished this season 7-5 in the Waccamaw Conference and 12-9 overall. "With us being so young and everything, the season went kind of like I expected it to go," West Brunswick Coach Brenda Council said. "We were definitely inexperi enced and it showed." In its first season in the Wac camaw Conference, Pender's Lady Patriots won the league champi onship with a 12-0 mark and ad vanced to the state 3A playoffs. South Columbus and East Colum bus were the conference's two 2A teams to qualify for the state playoffs.
