'HAUNTED HAY3IDE' IS $1 Fire Deportments Slate Free Halloween Carnival Three local volunteer fire depart ments are combining efforts to offer a free Halloween carnival for youngsters Saturday. Oct. 30, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sunset Beach Fire Station on N.C. 179. Free candy, prizes, treats, cup cakes and pizza will he provided as part of the fun, said volunteer fire fighter Eileen Potter. The event is being sponsored by the Ocean Isle, Sunset Beach and Calabash Volun teer Fire Departments and offers a safe alternative to trick-or-treating. After the carnival, at 8 p.m. a haunted hayride and visit to a haunt ed house are planned for older chil dren and adults. Children age 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $1 per person. Both events will be held even in the event of rain, said Potter. Births Are Announced | Smith Chris and Paula Smith of Clarks ville. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Biela of Carterville, Mass., and Nancy Young of Holyoke, Mass. Hamilton Gwendolyn Hamilton and Alex King of Shallotte are the parents of a son, Alex AI'Terick Hamilton, born Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. at The Brunswick Hospital. He weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19 inches long. Alex joins a brother. Khazy Ham ilton, and a sister. Alichia Hamilton. Grandparents are Flossie Bowens of Ash and Alexander and Saundra King of Shallotte. Great-grandparents are Eunice Hamilton of New York City and James Ward and Ida Mae King of Shallotte. She weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 20 inches long on arrival at The Brunswick Hospital Oct. 16 at 5:28 p.m. She joins siblings Destiny, 4, and Michelle, 2. She is a second grade teacher at Waccamaw Ele mentary School. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Keith Stanley of Shal lotte. Given ir. marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white bridal satin that featured a V-shaped neckline and a hand-beaded bodice with basque waistline and modified leg-o'-mutton sleeves. The imperial train was heavily adorned with hand -beaded lace insets and was accent ed with a back bow and pearled ap pliques. She wore a brimmed hat of ap pliqued lace medallions and seed pearls with a rear pouff and fingertip length veil.
