Dedication Notes Shelter's Role In Meeting Needs Of Victims Approximately 40 people attend ed the dedication Monday of the new office and resource center at Hope Harbor Home, the local shel ter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. "Brunswick County did this," said Carson "Pete" Durham of Shallotte as he accepted a plaque that will hang in the center recognizing his role as volunteer general contractor for the project, and two other part ners. Those were Janirve Foundation of Asheville, which contributed $10,000 that was combined with a $25,000 low-interest loan from NationsBank to buy construction materials, and the North Carolina Baptist Men. The statewide organi zation worked with the Rev. Jack Hancox, board member, and the Brunswick Baptist Association to provide volunteers from across the state to build the center. We have a $60,000 to $65, (MX) building that cost us $35,000 be cause of their help," said Director Cathy Swaim. Since the Hope Harbor Home shelter building was dedicated in 1988, the local program "has done nothing but grow," noted Jean Nel son, regional director for the N.C. Council for the Status of Women. State funding support for Home Harbor and more than 60 similar shelters statewide is channeled through the council.
