Long Beach Man Gets 4 Years In Theft Of Mattress Truck A 37-year-old Long Beach man was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty in Brunswick County District Court last week to charges of larceny, dri ving while his license was revoked, failing to stop for blue light and siren and speeding to elude arrest. The defendant, Robert Tyrone Scott, of Port Motel apartments, had been charged with felonious posses sion of a 1993 Ford pickup truck stolen from a Raleigh mattress outlet earlier this month. He agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of misdemeanor larceny as part of a plea bargain. Scott was also accused of speed ing SO miles per hour in a 35 mph zone while attempting to elude ar rest by Long Beach Police Officer Dennis Hedrick. District Court Judge David Wall presided over two days of court last week. Assistant District Attorney Rick Green prosecuted cases for the state. Marie Jordan served as court room clerk. Since "Click It or Ticket" began Oct. 4, law enforcement officers throughout North Carolina have written 21,948 tickets ? 20,643 for seat belt violations and 1,305 for child safety seat violations. Drivers and passengers caught not wearing a seat belt or using child safety seats are being fined $25. Fines from the citations go to the school system in each county.
