Jesse Bentley officiating. Burial was
in the church cemetery.
Born April 21. 1910, in Franklin
County, he was a son of the late
Hardie and Gertrude Shearin Gup
ton. He was retired from the N.C.
Department of Transportation as a
heavy equipment mechanic.
Survivors include his wife of 53
years, Agnes Andrews Gupton; a
son Joe Gupton of Supply; two
daughters, Carolyn Floyd and Pat
Gupton, both of* Charleston, S.C.;
two sisters. Wilma Leonard of
Rocky Mount and Elizabeth Leon
ard of Louisburg; five grandchil
dren; and two great-grandchildren.

served with the 82nd Airborne Divi
sion.
Survivors include his wife, Eliza
beth "Lib" Schroeter; a daughter.

Josie C. Coleman. 95. of Ash. died

Coleman Cemetery.
Mrs. Coleman was born in Bruns
wick County on Jan. 15, 1898, the
daughter of the late Covil and Mary
Hickman Canady. She was a mem
ber of Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons. Harry
"Tom" Coleman of Leland and Day
ton M. Coleman of Sunset Beach;
22 grandchildren; 37 great-grand
children; and several great-great
grandchildren.
ESSIE HOLT MILLARD
Essie Holt Millard. 78, of Long
Beach, died Oct. 31 at her residence.
A memorial service will be held
Nov. 8 in Oak Island Presbyterian
Church, where she was a member,
with Martha Moe officiating.
Mrs. Millard was born Sept. 28.
1915. in Lonan. Isle of Man. United
Kingdom, the daughter of the late
Absalom and Esther Crossley Holt.
She moved here from Pitman, N.J.,
in 1973.
She was a founding member ot
Oak Island Art Guild, to which she
was elected a lifetime member.
Survivors include a sister. Mary
dith Curtis of Huntington, W.Va.;
several inlaws, nieces and nephews.

WILLIAM GRADDY FAULK JR.
William Graddy Faulk Jr. 65, of
Southport, retired manager of
Brunswick Town State Historic Site,
died Oct. 28 at his residence.

Nov. 1 in Northwood Cemetery,

1928, in Chester, S.C., a son of the
late William G. and Lillian Dosher
Faulk. He moved to Southport 40
years ago from Fairmont.
He was a member of Southport
Baptist Church and Southport Hist
orical Society, and was a former
member of the Southport Fire De
partment and Southport Lions Club.
Survivors include two sons, Wil
liam G. Faulk III of Cheyenne,
Wyo., and Richard T. Faulk of
Southport; a daughter, Helen F.
Mathis of Hickory; a sister, Helen
Simpson of Florida; and four grand
children.

Mr. Permenter was born in Horry
County, S.C., the son of the late
Clinch H. and Miriam Talavast Per
menter. He was a member of
Wampee United Methodist Church,
a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean
conflict, a former Horry County po
liceman. and owner and operator of
P. Mining.
Survivors include his wife, l^ouise
L. Permenter of Wampee; three

and Christopher Allen "Kit Per

Church and an active member of the
Holden Beach Senior Citizens. She
was a volunteer for many years at
The Brunswick Hospital.
Survivors include her daughter.

St. Brendan's Catholic Church
holds its annual fall yard sale Thurs
day through Saturday, Nov. 11-13.
In addition to an array of yard
sale items, hotdogs, hamburgers,
sausages and drinks will he on sale
Thursday and Friday. Proceeds go to
the church building fund.
Sale hours are noon to 4 p.m.
Thursday. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday
and 9 a.m. until noon Saturday.

livered to the church or pick-up

St. Brendan's is located 1.5 miles

week at The Holden Beach Chapel.

worship service Sunday, Nov. 7, at
the interdenominational chapel on

Fall Bazaar Coming
Village Point United Methodist
Church near Shallotte Point holds its
annaul fall bazaar Saturday. Nov. 6.
Starting at 10 a.m., shoppers can
choose from an array of crafts,
baked goods and yard sale items.
The women of the church will al
so offer a luncheon of homemade
soup and hotdogs with homemade
chili.
"We'll have something for every
one," said spokesman Patti Jones.
Bazaar At Seaside
Seaside United Methodist Church
will be selling crafts, Christmas
gifts, decorations and baked goods
at a bazaar Saturday. Nov. 6, from 9
a.m. until 2 p.m.
The church men also will be serv
ing spaghetti dinners at a cost of $4

the topic, "A Religious Response To
Violence Against Women and Chil
dren."

clergy and lay leaders.

Resource Center for Women and
Ministry in the South.
