First Weddings Extra-Special
At Brunswick Islands Baptist
Brunswick Islands Baptist Church celebrated its first two weddings
Nov. 6 in a ceremony which taught both bridal couples and the congrega
tion a lesson in friendship and sharing.
Angel Marie Mitchell and William Dan Mercer had planned to marry
at Brunswick Islands Baptist Church, according to church spokesman
Douglas Hall. During their prenuptial counseling, they learned that Maria
Hall and Terry Phillips were to be married later that afternoon.
On Nov. 2, the couples ran into each other while applying for marriage
licenses. Though Mitchell and Mercer had not met Hall and Phillips, they
did know of each others' wedding plans; Mitchell and Mercer had agreed
to leave their church decorations in place for the other couple to use in
their ceremony.
Then the couples met at revival, and a friendship formed. Instead of
having their weddings two hours apart as originally scheduled, the cou
ples decided to hold their services back to back. The newlywed Mr. and
Mrs. Mercer joined the congregation to become a part of the Phillips ser
vice.
Afterward, the couples celebrated in a joint reception.
