Jackie Dent Wins Sea Trail's Annual Gold Charm Tournament Jackie Dent was the winner of the gold charm in the annual Sea Trail Ladies Golf Association "Charm" Tournament played Oct. 1 2 and IM. The charm and other awards were presented at the group's annual lun cheon last Wednesday at the Jones Byrd Clubhouse. Joan Worley won the silver charm. Joan Llewellyn had the most birdies for the season, and Kitty Smoker was the first runner-up. Carol Patridge was named Most Improved Player. New officers for the 1994 season will be Heni Moulton, president; Ann Holman, vice president; Jenny Gregory, secretary; and Marie Munn, treasurer. On Nov. 2, the Sea Trail women counted scores on holes starting with the letters "S" and "T" and used half of their handicaps. Joan Llewellyn. Joan Worley and Eva Baham tied for first place in the first flight with net 35. Louisa Cilento was second with 37. Jane Bye led the way in the sec ond flight with net 32. Martha Murphy was second with 36, fol lowed by Pat Swanekamp. Marge Stokes and Jill Wilson with rounds of 40. Third flight winners were Lois Curry with 31. Nin Consalvi with 39 and Marge Gallop and Jenny Gregory with 40. Brierwood Scramble Three teams posted scores of 35 and tied for first place in the nine hole mixed scramble last Thursday at Brierwood. Winning teams were Jerry Lula, Jim Crosby. Jim Guffee and Lois Martocci; Jerry Pratt. Bob Sterner, Janet Twomey and Barbara Baxter; Roy Havenga. Frank Thompson. Ann Guffee and Dee Pratt. On Oct. 31, two teams tied for first place in the 18-hole scramble at Brierwood. Joe Reiter, Dillon Taylor, Rita Dugan and Sally Dye shot 68 to tie Jerry Lula, Ned Dye, Nancy Bouldin and Lois Martocci. Finishing second with 70 was the team of Greg Bouldin, Lois Beato and Honey Gruzlewski. Bill Pingo, Jim Roach, Ellie Scutt and Sara Lula shot 72 to tie for third place with John Martocci, Bernie Gruzlewski, Esther Smith and Wyarian Taylor. Brick Landing Ladies The Brick Landing Ladies Golf Association held match play .tour nament last Thursday with two-per son teams. Winners included Millie Thomas and Rose Gorney over Alice Gross man and June Beck; Ruth Gardner and Sue Nelson over Sue Houston and Vivian Rowe; Rosemary Dob son and Marie Barry over Pat Taylor and Edna Hollowed; and Ursula Styczynski and Loraine Babcock over Martha Cullen and Terry Ehl ers. Reporting hirdies were Rowe at the 1 3th hole and Gorney at the 18th. Chip-ins were made by Thom as and Styczynski at the fourth hole and June Beck at the 15th. Brierwood Ladies Jan Loflin shot gross 79 and Nancy Bouldin had net 69 to lead the first flight in the Brierwood Ladies Golf Association tournament last Tuesday. Runtiers-up in the top flight in cluded Marje Roach with net 72 and Peg Sawyer with 74. lj>flin had low putts with 29. In the second flight. Chick Weingarten had the low gross of 96. Low net scores were posted by Janice Owens with 72 and Helene Baker and Maureen Farley with 74. Owens had low putts with 33. Third flight winners included Jean Laceren/a with gross 97. Catherine Clemmons and Irene Bry ant tied for low net with 71, and Shirley Groff had a 72. Louise Blizzard had low putts with 29. Top finishers in the fourth flight included Emily Laughlin with gross 116 and Peg Steiner with net 83. Virginia Gibson, Fran Torgerson and Jen Ward tied with net 85. Steiner had low putts with 30. Groff and Baker both chipped in for birdie at the ninth hole. Also making birdies were Nel Justice at the second hole. Pat Wolff at the fifth. Bryant at the 1 1 th and Evelyn Wuthrich at the ninth and 1 2th. Calabash Veterans Alan Kletchka. Bill Mullikin. Bill Seip and Hal Riebesehl shot 112 to win the Calabash Veterans Golf Association tournament last Friday at Land O'Lakes in Whiteville. Finishing second in the two best ball event was the foursome of Bob Christian, L.C. Bollinger, John Mar cotte and Ed Wood with a score of 116. The group will hold its annual Veterans Week Tournament this Friday at Brierwood. Show time is 7:30 a.m. Al Branham and Bill Mc Davit are the defending champions in the better ball event. On Oct. 29, the Calabash Veterans held a captain's choice tournament at Brierwood. Jerry Russ, Ed Wood. Don Kelly and Dave Earle placed first with a round of 63. Finishing three shots back in sec ond place was the team of Jack Brady. Pal Varney. Herb Holcomb and Urban Aquilino. Walt Benes. Dick Mee. Hal Riebesehl and Pal Kellev were third with 67. Placing fourth with a score of 68 was the foursome of John Marcotte, Cliff Massey, John Nelson and Bob Borstock. Oscar Aubin. Bill Brad ley, Chester Drouin and Walt Hasiuk were fifth with 68. Carolina Shores Men Bill Marsh, l^es Meader, Joe Murphy and Jack McAleer shot net 130 to win the Carolina Shores Men's Golf Association two best ball tournament Nov. 1 at Bay Tree. Finishing second with 132 was the team of Bill Teschler, Jack Hannaway, Joe Bruzzi and Warren Pienack. Dan Roberts, Benton Austin. Bob Remais and Mike Abbene shot 137 to tie for third place with the four some of Ken Earl, Russ Nickens, Bern Distler and Bob Fyock. Foxy Ladies Ann Causer shot gross 98 and Ellie Scutt had net 67 to lead the first flight in the Foxy Ladies tour nament last Friday at Ocean Isle Beach. Top finishers in the second flight were Ginny Anzelone with gross 113 and Martha Wareheim with net 85. fir/erwood Men John Martocci. Rick Rickbiel, Fmile Vrydaghs and Bernie Gruz lewski shot 208 to win the Brier wood Men's Golf Association tour nament last Thursday. Teams counted the three low net scores on each hole. The winners were eight under par. Joe Reiter, Howard Bayne, Bill Goldsberry and A1 Hierman placed second with 210. In the Brierwood men's two best ball tournament Nov. 1, first place went to the team of Jim Roach. Don Redding and Jerry Lula with 123. They used a blind draw for the fourth score. Finishing second with 127 was the team of Dave Harper. Barney Martin. Hank Culp and Al Butler. Ruth's Renegades Members of Ruth's Renegades dropped scores on their three worst holes on the tronl nine and three worst on the back nine in the weekly tournament last Thursday. Evelyn Wuthrich led a tic-Id of 10 golfers at Brierwood with a score of 44.5. Runners-up were Peg Steiner with 48 and Mary Ahearn w ith 48.5. Wuthrich had the overall low gross of I (KS and low net of 7 1 . Twelve women played at Lock wood Folly, where Jan Kilgore and Ruth Brown had the low rounds of 52. Kilgore placed first on a match of cards. Arletie Singleton was third with 58. Kilgore had the overall low gross of 119 and low net of 7 1 . Carolina Shores Ladies Terry Gould shot 28.5 and Ann Hierman had 30 to lead the first flight in the Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Association crossover tourna ment last Thursday at Lockwood Links. In the second flight. Ruth Rad cliffe led the way with a round of 30.5. Jean Sperry was second with 31.5. Third flight winners were Shirley Vazquez with 24.5 and Blanche Johnson with 28.5. Ducky Rice won the fourth flight w ith a score of 29. She was followed by Fran Torgerson with 30. Doerthe Needham. Lynn Jerr and Torgerson tied for low putts with 30. Torgerson had chip-ins at the first and 1 0th holes and Ruth Rice chipped in at the 1 0th. Making birdies were Gould at the seventh and 11th holes. Ginnie Derrickson at the 11th and Hierman at the 17th. Carolina Shores Scramble Carolina Shores and Derbster's Restaurant will sponsor a scramble Monday, Nov. 22. starting at 11:30 a.m. The entry fee will be 525 per player, and prizes will be provided. Fox Squirrel Women Cindy Kuester finished first and Bonnie McRae placed second in the Fox Squirrel Women's Golf Asso ciation low putts tournament Oct. 27. On Oct. 13, Ruby Rickard won the low net tournament at Fox Squir rel. Bobbie Davis, Paula Kalweit and Barthold lied for second. Por terfield was third. The American Lung Association of North Carolina has started selling its 1994 Golf Privilege Card, which entitles the holder to reduced rates at 154 courses in North and South Carolina. The card is good for 270 rounds of golf, either free or at reduced rates, and is valid Jan. 1, 1994, through Dec. 31. Some courses have restrictions on when the card may be used during the year, and carts required at most clubs are not included as part of the Privilege Card, which costs $40. Participating courses in Bruns wick County are Brick Landing, Brierwood, Brunswick Plantation, Carolina Shores, Fox Squirrel, Oak Island, Ocean Harbour, Ocean Isle Beach, Olde Fort, Sandpiper Bay, The Gauntlet and The Pearl.
