Dayton, Reese Win Veterans Week Tourney At Brierwood Wash Dayton and Bill Reese shot 62 to win the top Might in the second annual Veterans Week Tournament last Friday at Brierw(x>d. The better net ball of twosome event attracted 158 players. Proceeds from the tournament bene fit Calabash VFW Post 7288 and American Legion Post 503. In the A Flight, Dayton and Reese edged defending champions Al Branham and Bill McDavit on a match of cards. Dick Smith and Jerry Russ finished third with 66, followed by Ron Estes and Bob Platenberg, also with 66. The B Flight also was decided on a match of cards, with Jack Brooks and Rud Hall finishing first with 64. Walt Benes and Pat Varney placed second and Bill Minscher and Don Nelson were third. Lew Meyer and George O'Connell took fourth with a 65. In the C Flight, Bob Phillips and Jim Ucci shot 56 and took first place on a match of cards over L.C. Bollinger and Paul Schasney. Bill Parr and Roy Bleich placed third with a round of 60, and Fred Hohorst and Bill Johnson finished fourth with 62. Top finishers in the D Flight were Bo Lee and Lee Morrow with 61. Bob Borstock and Bob Stilwell were second with 63, followed by Russ Shillingburg and Ed McEachran with 63. John Pape and Hal Reibesehl were fourth with 66. In the mixed flight, Jerry Single tary and Geri Sellers placed first with a 58. Runners-up were John Roach and Jan Cowie with 60, Don and Jane Mahncke with 61 and Frank and Joan Chancier with 61. Mary Johnson, who had a hirdie and chip-in, led the second flight with gross 97. Kathy Deming had the low net of 76. Third flight winners were Gerry Burdick with gross 116 and Irene Crane with net 81. Use Uateman had gross 108 and Doris Rice posted a net 71 to lead the fourth flight. Brierwood Ladies Joanna Lang and Ann Causer shot net 30 to tie for first place in the top flight of the Brierwood Ladies Golf Association tournament last Tues day. Golfers counted scores on par 3 holes and par 5 holes only and used half of their handicaps. Rose Reiter finished second with a score of 32.5, and she had low putts with 30. In the second flight, Ruth Linder led the way with a round of 29.5. She was followed by Dot Crean with 30.5 and Maureen Farley with 31.5. Linder had low putts with 30. Third flight winners were Ellie Scutt and Shirley Groff with scores of 28.5. Anne Guffee was second with 31.5. Teams counted the low gross score and low net score on each hole. Finishing second, also with 146, were John Ewart, Peter Crock ett, Rick Redeker and Lou Meyer.
