Man Who Threatened Sister Sent To Prison For Treatment A 37-year-old lx-land man was sent to prison for treatment of al leged substance abuse after being found guilty in Brunswick County District Court last week on charges of being drunk and disruptive and communicating threats against his sister. Vertie Wilkins of Town Creek Road testified that her brother Bruce Williams approached her while in toxicated and told her. "I'm going to (mess) you up." She said she had been assaulted by her brother on other occasions. Assistant District Attorney Mar ion Warren pointed out to Judge Napoleon Barefoot that Williams had previously been arrested on charges involving alcohol and as saults on females. The prosecutor recommended that Williams be sent to prison long enough to participate in the N.C. Department of Cor rections' Drug and Alcohol Rehabi litation Training (DART) program. The judge agreed and sentenced Williams to six months and 2{) days in prison, with 28 days credit lor the time he spent in jail awaiting trial. If paroled early. Williams was ordered not to "assault, harass, abuse, threat en. follow or communicate with" Wilkins. Judge Barefoot presided over three days of district court in Bolivia last week. District Attorney Rex Gore and assistants Warren and Don Kelly offered evidence for the state while Marie Jordan acted as court room clerk. Other defendants who appeared in court last week, with their charges and judgments include: Charfes E. Almond, simple as sault. voluntarily dismissed at re quest of plaintiff. Anthony Junior Bell, resisting/ob structing public officer, failure to yield to police/fire/emergency vehi cle, reckless driving to endanger, no drivers license, consolidated judg ment, Brunswick County Jail six months, suspended sentence two years, supervised probation two years, Brunswick County Jail five days credit for time served awaiting trial. $150 and costs, not violate any laws for two years, not operate mo tor vehicle until valid license to do so, submit to warrantless searches. George Martin Carroll, disorderly conduct, motion to dismiss allowed at the close of states evidence. Timothy Gerald Estep. probation violation out-of-county, voluntarily dismissed. Albert Wayne Faulk, assault on a government official, voluntarily dis missed at request of plaintiff. Travis C. Ford, worthless check/ closed account to Wal-Mart for $26.16, Brunswick County Jail five months, suspended sentence two years, restitution to plaintiff, costs, $15 service return charge, not vio late any laws for two years; worth less check/closed account to Wal Mart for $26.16, voluntarily dis missed, duplicate warrant.
