Goetschius Wins Carolina Shores Men's Turkey Shoot Bill Goetschius shot net 67 to lead the first flight in the Carolina Shores Men's Golf Association "Turkey Shoot" on Nov. 22 at Brierwood. Runners-up in the top flight in cluded John Farley with net 71, Gordon Mavcr with 72 and George Balbach with 73. Top finishers in the second flight were Tom Harris with net 70. Mel Norris with 70, Don Pearce wi'h 72 and Murray Palmer with 72. Third flight winners were Iggy Puleo with net 67, Les Soule with 69, Rod Manifold with 71. Bob Remais with 71 and Frank Mattson with 71. Jack McAleer led the fourth flight with ntt 64. Runners-up were Ernie Koeppel with 69, Stu Thorn with 70 and John Serafin with 72. Brierwood Men The team of Jim Roach, Howard Scutt, Emile Vrydaghs and Ned Dye shot 120 to win the Brierwood Men's Golf Association two best ball tournament last Thursday. Finishing nine strokes back in sec ond place was the foursome of Jim Crosby, Jerry Lula, Jack Causer and Paul Keeley. On Nov. 22, the team of Jim Roach. Barney Martin. Bill Golds berry and Dick Anzelone shot 132 to win a best ball event at Brierwood. Teams counted one best ball on par 3 holes, the two best balls on par 4 holes and three balls on par 5 holes. The winning team was 20 under par. Finishing second at 18 under were Dave Harper, Jim Crosby, Bob NVareheim and Ned Dye. Placing third with a score of 136 was the foursome of Bill Allen, A1 Hierman, Bob Allwein and Bob Sterner. Brierwood Scramble Two teams tied for first place in the 18-hole "Turkey Scramble" played Nov. 21 at Brierwood. Fred Williams, Gene Cordisco. Ginger Sugrue and Marion Allen shot 64 to tie the team that included Jim Bryant, Bill Crean and Dot Modre. Six teams tied for second place with scores of 67. They included Hollen Graff, Bill Goldsberry, Ann Causer, Virginia Vrydaghs; Nick Lacerenza, Straud Maerker, Mar garet Pingo, Nel Justice; Bill Rose, Keith Forsey, Margaret Wood, Alice Grossman. Also tied for second were the teams of John Martocci, Ted Nara zinski, Gwen Borneuff, Ginny Anze lone; Bill Poison, Fred Eifert, Ned Dye, Merle Goldsberry; and Randy Milazzo. Randy Milazzo Jr., Doris Dunfee, Catherine Clemmons. Ed Rockstroh, Graham Justice, Bill Grossman and Betty Neal shot 68 to tie for third place with the team of Gene Loflin. John Moore, Betty Maerker and Dottie Crean. Sea Trail Ladies Barbara Plate shot net 33 to win the first flight in the Sea Trail Ladies Golf Association tournament last Wednesday on the Maples course. Golfers counted scores on the first four holes and holes 10 through 14. Pat Reid finished second in the top flight with a score of 36. In the second flight. Eva Baham placed first with a score of 26. Joan Worley was second with net 29. Barbara Pointer shot 31 and Betty Geesey had 36 to lead the third flight. Fourth flight winners were Ann Otten with 29 and Ruth Kivett with 37. Robin Walters. Worley and Point er had birdies at the third hole. Also making birdies were Ann Holman at the eighth, Frances Williams and Geesey at the 17th and Baham at the 18th. Lockv/ood Shootout Terry Lefevre and Larry Brown finished with plus TA to win the weekly Shootout last Wednesday at Lockwood Links. Second place went to the team of Doreen Lawler and Anthony Carr with plus 5'A. Paul Dennis and Bob Lawler were third with 4 'A. The top individual on a non-win ning team was Jim Blair with plus 554. Calabash Veterans Bob Phillips and Gary Viles fin ished with seven points to win the Calabash Veterans Golf Association modified Stableford points tourna ment last Friday at Cypress Bay. Brunswick Ladybirds The Brunswick Ladybird League held its year-end luncheon recently at St. James Plantation. Special recognition was given to Paula Kalweit of Fox Squirrel for her hole in one at Sandpiper Bay and to Oak Island s Kay Brannon for lead ing the field in seven of the nine tournaments and winning in all nine.
