SBA Loans To Brunswick
Countians Top $1 Million
Brunswick County entrepreneurs
were given three Small Business
Administration loans totaling just
over $1 million during 1993, accord
ing to a news release.
Statewide, 438 loans were ap
proved from October 1992 through
September 1993, totaling more than
$119 million. The loans were made
in the 68 of North Carolina's 1(K)
counties and helped small business
es create or retain more than 3.3(H)
jobs, the release stated.
"This year represents another re
cord-breaking year for the Charlotte
District office," said District Direc
tor Gary A. Keel. "In FY 1992, 390
loans were made for $87,974, (XX).
FY 1993 figures represent a 12 per
cent increase in the number of loans
and a 36 percent increase in the dol
lar amount.
"Even though the SBA ran out of
money for ten weeks in the summer,
we were still able to exceed last
year's figures. This provides that
small firms need more capital to ex
pand."
Congress approved a supplemen
tal appropriation which allowed
SBA to meet the demand.
SBA loans are made primarily by
private lenders, usually banks, guar
anteed up to 90 percent by SBA.
Loan programs include working
capital loans, small loans (under
$25,000), contract loans, export re
volving line of credit, and the Green
Line Loan Program, a five-year line
of credit.
Small businesses or individuals
interested in SBA financing should
contact a local bank or the Charlotte
District office at 200 North College
St.. Suite A-2015, Charlotte NC
28202, or call (704)334-6563.
