VIC Schedules Commodities Distribution For Jan. 21-22
The Brunswick County Volunteer and Information
Center will make its first-quarter distribution of U.S.
Department of Agriculture commodities J;-n. 21 and 22
at the Republican Headquarters building in Sunply.
The distribution site will open at 9 a.m. on Friday,
Jan. 21, and will close at 4 p.m. The site will reopen at')
a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, and will remain open until the
supply of food is exhausted.
Commodities allocated to VIC include butter, corn
meal, green peas, peanut butter, applesauce, canned pork
and tuna, orange juice, apple juice, raisins, rice, vegetar
ian beans, peaches and fruit cocktail.
The commodities program is intended only as a
quarterly supplement to other available services in the
county, said Angela Fisher, VIC executive assistant.
"The Brunswick County Volunteer and Information
Center is unable to order specific amounts of food be
cause the NCDA divides the available food between all
counties," she added.
"There are no guarantees that there will be enough
of the above-mentioned foods to supply everyone eligi
ble for this program. The food is distributed on a first
come, first-served basis, an'1 once all the foods are given
out, there will he no more available until the next quar
ter."
To qualify, all food stamp households must bring
their white commodity authorization card and the green
identification card. The white cards should be delivered
by mail by Jan. 5. A household is considered a food
stamp household if they received food stamps in
December 1993.
For non-food-stamp households, the person applying
must appear at the distribution site in person or send a
statement by their designated person authorizing VIC to
release commodities to that person.
The note must include the applicant's name and so
cial security number, household income, number of peo
ple in the household, addicts and person's nam*. autho
rized to pick up commodities. It should also state that no
one else from the household is applying.
Every recipient must bring a box or container for his
or her food.
For more information, call Angela Fisher at VIC,
754-4766.
