Burglar Alarm Stolen
In Shallotte Burglary At
Shady Rest Subdivision
An infrared-sensing, motion-de
tecting burglar alarm was among the
items stolen during a break-in and
larceny at a home in the Shad) Rest
subdivision near Shallottc recently,
according to a crime report on file at
the Brunswick County Sheriff's
Department Monday.
The Wythevillc. Va.. man who
owns the vacation residence on
Carter Street told Deputy Rebekah
McDonald that a neighbor called
him last week to report that the
home had been broken into. It ap
peared that the thiel or thieves took
a glass pane out of a kitchen win
dow to get inside.
They tore out the electric meter in
an attempt to shut off the burglar
alarm, then "went through the entire
home taking the alarm system and
other items." McDonald reported.
The resulting power outage dam
aged the home's water heater and
caused several food items in the re
frigerator to spoil, the report said.
Missing in addition to the alarm
system was a clock, a screwdriver
and a towel rack made of oak and
brass. The total value of missing and
damaged property was estimated at
$400.

searched the house and found no
one inside. He reported that the
thieves "used a ceramic deer from
the front porch to bust the w indow."
Missing were an AM/FM stereo cas
sette deck, a pair of binoculars and a
radio telephone.

some time in the past two weeks.
Deputy Malcolm Long found that
the thief or thieves got inside by
forcing open a window on the rear
door of the mobile home. Missing
were a telephone, a microwave
oven, a videocassette recorder and a
vacuum cleaner valued at S770.

stolen from a mobile home on

Road. Shallottc. Wednesday. The

disarrav." Missing alone with the
gun were a videocassette recorder, a
car stereo, a video game, jewelry, a
coin collection, clothing and some
chew ing tobacco.

their house on U.S. 17 to find that
someone had pried open a front win
dow. crawled inside and made off
with a microwave oven. Deputy
Robert Long estimated its value at

Road. Shallotte. recently. The man
arrived at his mobile home at about
9 a.m. Wednesday and found tire
tracks leading away from the trailer.
Then he noticed the pump missing
from the pump house. Deputy Shel
don Caison estimated its value at
about $200.

moved from a Toyota Corolla stored
in the salvage yard of a automobile
repair shop on Main Street. Shal

oven valued at about S475 were
stolen from a home near the inter
section of Old Shallotte Road and
Union School Road Wednesday
night. A neighbor called 911 to re
I*?rt the incident after driving by and
seeing the front door smashed in.
Deputy Sheldon Caison reported. He
estimated the damage to the door
and facing at about $600.
?Deputy Sgt. Don Slovall took a
report from a woman on Newberry
l-ane. Bolivia, who said that she ac
cidentally threw out a .32-caliber se
mi-automatic pistol with the trash
recently. Slovall said the report "was
filed in the even! that someone else
would find the weapon and commit
a crime with same."
? A Greensboro man returned to
winterize his summer home on Russ
Street. Supply, Thursday and found
that "the entire residence had been
ransacked." McDonald reported.
Pictures were removed from the
walls, the stereo was pulled out and
onto the floor, closets and drawers
were opened and gone through, the
attic crawl space had been opened
and a bed mattress and cushions
were strewn onto the floor, causing
an estimated $75 damage. Nothing
was reported missing. However, the
intruders left two full cans of beer
on the couch.
?The owner of a .380-caliber se
mi-automatic handgun told Deputy
Ccbert Walls that she noticed the
weapon missing from a box in her
mobile home on U.S. 17 near Sup
ply Friday morning. The gun was
valued at about $90.

Deputy Bryant said. "The owner ad
vised me that he had reinforced the
lock on the door and the subject was
unable to get the door fully open."
However, the deputy said the door
was "damaged beyond repair.
?Someone sprayed black paint on
the tailgate of a 1993 Chevrolet
pickup truck parked at a home on
Ocean Haven Road. Seaside, on
New Years Eve, causing an estimat
ed $300 damage. Deputy Kcithan
Home reported that he "also found
black paint on signs and other things
throughout the community."
?A woman who lives on Benton
Brown Way in Iceland told Deputy
Richard I ont> that she believes a
couple who came to look at her
home may have stolen a gold and di
amond ring from her jewelry box.
She said her home has been for sale
and the man and woman visited
about three weeks ago. The stolen
ring was estimated to be worth about
$600.
?Robert Long took a report of a
lost purse from a woman who said
she left it on the bed of a pickup
truck as she drove to a Leland video
store. A neighbor reportedly told her
that she saw someone stop their car
and retrieve the purse. Among its
contents was $400 in cash.
