Nets Upset Panthers 80-52
Jell Register scored 21 points to
lead the Nets to an 80-52 upset win
o I the Panthers last Thursday in
Brunswick County Men's
Basketball League play at Shallotte
Middle School.
The Nets improved to 2-4. while
the Panthers fell to 2-3. Raymond
Green scored 17 points in a losing
cause for the Panthers.
In other league action last Thurs
day. the Turntables remained unde
feated with an 86-71 victory over
the Lakers. Trampus Gause led the
6-0Turntables with 21 points, while
Leo Smith and Dennis Smith had 16
each for the Lakers.
In men's basketball play last
Wednesday. U("3 took over sole
possession of second place with an
8I-71) win over the Young Guns.
Brandon Lancaster scored 25 points
ftir UC3, and LaPerry Hill led the
Guns with 15.
The Rockets soared to a 7(1-64
?in over the Great Whitt-s in Wed
nesday's other game. Joe Clemmons
led the winners with 24 points, and
Greg White scored 20 for the Great
Whites.
There will be no games today
(Thursday) due to a Shallotte Mid
dle School basketball game. The
games vv ill be made up at the end of
the season.

Peg Campana posted the low
gross and Alice Grossman had low
net in the Brick Landing Plantation
Women's Golf Association tourna
ment last Thursday.
Runners-up in the low gross divi
sion were Martha Cullen and Edna
Hollowed. Sue Houston had the sec
ond low net, followed by Terry
Ehlers.
Rose Gorney had a chip-in for
birdie at the second hole. Also chip
ping in was Campana at the llth
hole.
Brierwood Men
John Martocci. Jim Guffee, Rick
Rickbeil and Ted Narazinski shot
121 to win the Brierwood Men's
Golf Association tournament last
Thursday.
Finishing second in the two best
ball event was the foursome of Jim
Roach. Neal McCall. Hal Schuler
and Ned Dye with a score of 125.
Don Redding. Jack Causer and
Dick Anzelone shot 126 to tie for
third with the team of Dave Harper,
Odie Johnson. Bob Wareheim and
Bob Sterner.
On Jan. 10. the team of Frank
Steeves, Joe Reiter, Gene Cordisco
and Bob Allwcin shot 135 to win a
two best ball tournament at
Brierwood. They finished at nine
under par.
Maples Course Reopens
The Dan Maples course at Sea
Trail Plantation has reopened for
play after undergoing a renovation
last month.
Right greens were resurfaced with
Penneross hentgrass to allow for
more consistent play. First opened in
I 985 the Maples course is Sea
Trail's original golf course.
Br/erwood Ladies
Rose Reiter shot gross 86 and
Mary Schaack had net 69 to lead the
first flight in the Brierwood Ladies
Golf Association tournament last
Tuesday.
Marie Brown had the top flight's
second low net with 71. Schaack
had low putts with 2H.
In the second flight, top finishers
were Claire Aston with gross 92 and
Chick Weingarten with net 72. Betty
Maerker shot net 74. and Marie
Dolan had low putts with 30.
Leading the third flight was Dot
Crean with gross 98 and 30 putts.
Low net winners were Pierrette
Tompkins with 73 and Sally Dye
with 77.
Margaret Pingo and Emily
Laughlin tied for low gross in the
fourth flight with rounds of 112.
