Back-to-back road trips last week
to Carteret and Onslow counties
took .1 toll on the West Brunswick
wrestling team, which lost two out
of three matches to tall to 5-7 for the
season.
After suffering .1 disappointing,

da> for a tri-match at Dixon.
West Brunswick opened with .1
46-19 viciotN over Pamlico. But the
effects ol two-hour bus rides on con
secutive nights started showing in
the nightcap as the powerful Dixon
Bulldogs rolled to a 52-1 I win over
the wears I'rojans.
"I'm not making excuses, but by
the time we got to that Dixon match

wick Coach Joe Noble said. "I had

couldn't remember a thing."

behind 1N-0 and could not recover
despite w inning eight ot the final 10
weight classes.

Coach Noble said several ques
tionable calls went against the Tro
jans. At 112 pounds. West Carteret
was credited with a pin even though
it came after time had expired in the
third period.
"We should ha\e won that

my kids that they wrestled well but
there were some things that were out
of our control."
With two wins last week. West's
Chris Jackson improved his individ
ual season record to 13-1. Senior

South Brunswick will host a tour
team high school wrestling tourna
ment Saturday morning at the
Cougar gym.
West Brunswick, North Bruns
wick and Socastee (Salso will
compete in the event, which was
originally slated as the six-team
North Carolina South Carolina
Challenge.
Teams from the three Brunswick
County high schools were supposed
to battle three teams from South
Carolina, hut Aynor and Che raw
dropped out ot the tournament just
before Christmas.
"Their budgets got tight and they
called and said they couldn't make
it." South Brunswick Coach Don
Millwood said "I can understand
that, l.verybody has limited budgets."
South Brunswick, which was
scheduled to wrestle at West Bruns
wick Tuesday night, improved its
