X p.m. Hearing Set On Tobacco Price Support Program The status of the federal Tobacco Price Support Program will be the topic of a Feb. 21 public hearing planned by the House Agricultural Subcommittee on Specialty Crops and Natural Resources in Lumberton. Implementation of the recently-enacted Domestic Content Law for to bacco also will be discussed at the hearing. Congressman Charlie Rose (D Sevc-nth District) chairs the subcommittee. "I am looking forward to hearing from individuals in the tobacco com munity about any issues of concern they may have regarding the operation of the Tobacco Program," Rose said in a press release. Speakers are expected to include U.S. Department of Agriculture offi cials. tobacco growers, tobacco state economists and other tobacco industry officials. "There are a number of issues we must continue to consider if we are going to ensure a strong Tobacco Program," Rose said. "I remain concerned about the level of tobacco imports and the effect these imports have on our Tobacco Program, and 1 believe we need to make a smooth transition to the Domestic Content I .aw as soon as possible." Schools To Be Survey Topic The Sonihporl-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce, with help from the North Brunswick and South Brunswick Islands chambers, w ill be surveying Brunswick County employees and residents on attitudes toward public edu cation in Brunswick County. Hie survey is designed to gather information on how Brunswick County residents and employees view the Brunswick County Schools system. Beginning this week, selected Brunswick County businesses will he dis tributing the survey to a random sampling of their employees. The complet ed surveys will be collected by committee volunteers before Feb. 28. "The committee will use the survey results to focus on correcting the perceptions or realities of the greatest concern." according to a chamber news release, which said the committee will later release the survey results.
