flo V/arren W?r?s Carolina Shores Tournament Flo Warren shot net 27 to win the first flight in the Carolina Shores Indies Golf Association crossover tournament last Thursday. Betty Kibblehouse was second with 28.5. Jean Palmer won the second flight with net 32. Jenny Briggs led the third flight with 27, and Dot Russo was second with net 31. Shirley Vazquez won the fourth flight with 28.5. Kibblehouse had a chip-in at the l()th hole and low putts for the day with 30. Jackie Distler made birdie at the eighth hole. CS Travel League Roy Little, Don Redding. Dan Cuomo and Guy Williams shot 125 to win the Carolina Shores Men's Travel League tournament last Friday at Colonial Charters. Teams counted one low net score on the first six holes, two low scores on the next six and three low scores on the final six. Finishing second with 128 was the foursome of John Farley, Gene Miltner, JeiTy Downs and Tom Parry. John Ward, Frank Eckert. Ernie Koeppel and John Rectenwald shot 130 and placed third on a match of cards over the team of Bob Johnson, Mel Norris. Bob Matteson and Ken Kay. Finishing fifth with 132 was the team of l^ee Gould, Bill McCroskey, Tony Basile and Al Storm. 'ITie men's group will play this Friday at Colonial Charters. Tee time is 7:32 a.m. Brierwood Men Brian Neenan, Morris Hall and Jerry Wolff shot 117 to win the Brierwood Men's Golf Association tournament last Saturday. Teams counted the two best net scores on each hole. The winners used a blind draw for their fourth score and finished 27 under par. Joe Reiter, Bob Wareheim, Bernie Gruzlewski and Charlie Stransky placed second with a score of 118. Finishing third with 120 was the foursome of Paul Dunfee, Bill Pin go, Odie Johnson and Rick Rickbeil. John Twomey. Jerry Lula, Ned Dye and Emile Vrydaghs finished fourth with 123. In men's league action last Thursday, the team of Joe Reiier, Emile Vrydaghs, Jim Kelleher and Jack Akers shot 129 to win a two best ball event. Finishing one stroke back in sec ond place was the team of Hon Red ding, Jerry Wolff, Boh Wareheim and a blind draw. On Feb. 28, the Brierwood men competed in another best hall tour nament. Teams counted the two best balls on every hole except 12, 13 and 14, where the three best balls were counted. Ixading the field was the team of Jim Crosby, Paul Dunfec, Charlie Stransky and Jim Kelleherwith 141. Three teams tied for second place with 143. They were Neal McCall, Dave Harper, Jerry Smith and Paul Keeley; Bill Pingo, Bill Allen. Mike Prokop and Ciene Cordisco; and Joe Reiter. Hank Culp, Emile Vrydaghs and Frank Steeves. Sea Trail Men George Ixfelar and Doug Mehne teamed up to shoot net 64 and won the first flight in the Sea Trail Men's Golf Association better ball tourna ment last Tuesday on the Jones course. Finishing second, also with 64. was the twosome of John Murphy and Willie Criswell. John Ewart and a blind draw took third with 64. The order of finish was determined on a match of cards. Bob Manfred and Pete Crockett won the second flight with net 61. Finishing one shot back in second place was the team of Ray Dillon and George Gallop. Bob Kakos and Ed Stepanovich placed third with net 63. Winning the third flight were Gene Connelly and Bob Delaney with net 62. Runners-up were Tom Coniglio and Al Cambria with 66 and Howard Van Dusen and a blind draw with 67. On a match of cards. Byron Wauters and John Siokcs won the fourth flight with net 61. Finishing second, also with 61, were John Lowenstcn and Guy Moulton. Clar UNC Wins Loc The University of North Carolina, led by tournament medalist Greg Di donna, won the 21-team Cheerwine Challenge of the Carolinas last weekend at Lockwood Golf Links. The Tar Heels posted a first-round team score of 294 on Saturday and came back with a 301 Sunday to de feat second-place finisher Belmont Abbey by 15 strokes. USC-Aikcn was third with 613, followed by Presbyterian at 618 and High Point at 622. Defending cham pion UNC-Wilmington placed ninth with a 628 total, and tournament host Catawba was !0th with I INC'1* Didonna the medalist with rounds of 71 and 72. Joining him on the all-tournament team were teammate Brian Brown with 146, Fayetteville State's George Clemmons Rolls 235 High Game In Mixed League Marty Clemmons rolled a high game of 235 and a 564 series to lead the men in the Woodmen of the World Mixed League last Friday at Brunswick County Bowling Center. Also posting high scores were Aud rey Redwine, 187, 463; Jan White, 180, 480; Bea Robinson, 176, 464; Wanda Evans, 173, 457; and Bev Stanley Second In Hoop Shoot At State Tourney Tamara Stanley, a fifth-grader at Shallotte Middle School, placed sec ond in her age division at the Elks Hoop Shoot state tournament Feb. 19 at Belmont Abbey College. Stanley made 17 of 25 free throw attempts to finish second in the girls' 10-11 age group, said Paul Jordan of the Calabash Elks, which sponsored the local contest. Stanley won local and district competitions to advance to the state tournament.
