tonia died of a heart attack at his
home March 2. He was 74.
Dr. Howard was the first and onlv
person to serve as president of Gas
ton County's two main colleges,
Gaston Community College and
Belmont Abbey College. He was the

in the college's history.

Mr. James was born in Greenville
County, SC., a son of the late
Samuel Isaih and Mary Elizabeth
Fricks James. He was a route sales
man with Pine State Creamery and a
member of Durbin Creek Baptist
Church. He moved from the
Shallotte area to l-ountain Inn ap
proximately two years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah
Margaret James of the home; a son,
David James of Greenville, S.C.; a
stepdaughter, Carol Porter of Green
ville. S.C.; four stepsons, Tony
Miller and Johnny Miller, both of
Greenville, S.C.. Harvey Miller of

of Willie L. Livingston.

Saving For Camp
The youth of Mt. Pisgah Baptist
Church in Supply will hold a yard
sale Saturday, March 12. starting at
7 a.m. al the church.
Proceeds will be used to help pay
for Acteens and RA's to attend a
missions camp this summer at the
N.C. Baptist Assembly at Fort
Caswell, said Linda Sellers.

Study Course Slated
Teaching the Bible to various age
groups will be the focus of a Sunday
School church study course offered
March 15 by the Brunswick Baptist
Association.
The course will be taught from 7
p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at both Faith Bap
tist Church at Bolivia and Shallottc
First Baptist Church, with classes
offered for those who teach pre
schoolers through adults.
This is the second class of five of
fered this year leading to a church
study course diploma for Sunday
School teachers and officers.
Youth Targeted
Churches without an active youth
ministry can learn how to begin one
at a workshop offered during the
Brunswick Baptist Association's
Youth Week emphasis.
